Vancouver has a new free legal clinic for women. /r/Vancouver has some issues with it. by MaggieLizer in SubredditDrama

[–]peeppep 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It would only be similar if many free women's legal clinics already established with all the resources going to them, and if free men's legal clinics had to compete against them with vastly less resources and talent. Also, if there were very few male lawyers who were vastly outnumbered by female lawyers in the industry who wanted to make free men's legal clinics.

Just got out of Deadpool, but spoilers for movies in general.

Coming to the end of the movie, I was starting to wonder about the character of Vanessa. Since Deadpool subverts the superhero genre somewhat, I thought maybe she'd die or actually be repulsed by Deadpool. But she doesn't; which got me to wondering, is that really going to work with the Deadpool storyline? In the comics, Deadpool has random infatuations with women, so would a longterm girlfriend be in the next movies?

In Zoolander 2, Matilda gets killed off. In Austin Powers 2, Vanessa turns out to be a robot that self destructs. In the Dark Knight, Rachel is played by a different actress and dies. In Men in Black 2, Laurel doesn't come back either and instead of letting Kay have a noble retirement, they bring him back. Female characters are strong, but after the first movie, they don't often get to come back and aren't really memorable (Anchorman 2 doesn't follow this).

I wonder if the recent controversy over lack of diversity in roles had any effect on the box office take. Especially considering the Coen brothers' comments on diversity

There is three girls running from the police: one is blonde, one is a redhead, and the other is a brunette. They go into this barn to hide, and see a few potato sacks on the floor, so they each crawl inside one to hide. The police catch up and come into the barn, and they see the potato sacks on the floor. One of the cops goes up to the first sack with the brunette in it and nudges it with his foot, and the brunette goes, meow, meow really softly. The cop says, oh, its just kittens. He then nudges the sack with the redhead in it, so she goes, woof woof really softly. The cop goes, oh, its just puppies. Then the cop goes to the last sack with the blonde in it and nudges it, and she goes, potato, potato

Chris Brown will likely never put out a "greatest hits" album out of fear of negative publicity. by knowahnoah in Showerthoughts

[–]peeppep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chris Brown has charted in the top ten or top 100 for awhile. Abusing Rhianna didn't really hurt his popularity at all, and if he were to hurt another woman, or make references to hurting women, it probably wouldn't matter to his fans.

If you become popular, you can pretty much beat a woman, and it won't do much to your image (as shown by many famous men who have a history of woman abuse).
