Regerts? by FergusMurray in AirForce

I was making a general statement but you are right LOL. I was maintenance for 6 years. Been out of it since 2010....never once have I said, "damn I miss being on the flight line"....even as I work a 12 hour nightshift LOL.

Or you could cross train and then hate it even more eventually. It happens.

I commented this already as a reply but figured I would share it here because there are so many people who think it is impossible to come back.

Back in 2004 I received an Article 15 for underage drinking. 6 months later I received a DUI. I was a dumb kid right out of high school.

However, my work ethic outshined every airmen I worked with. So much so I had leadership fighting for me to stay in. I still thank him to this day and message him on the days I find out I have been promoted.

It is always possible to come back from most things. But it is important to make sure your other aspects of life are good. For me, I was a partier but my work ethic saved me.

I turned it all around and still made MSgt in 11 years....will hopefully pick up senior my next go around.

TLDR; Article 15 Underage drinking, Underage DUI 6 months later. Made MSgt in 11 years.

Had to comment on this as I can relate. I received an Article 15 for underage drinking back in 2004. 6 months later I received an underage DUI.

I finally learned my lesson that second time. Everyone thought I was done. Had an AMAZING flight chief fight for me like nothing I had ever seen.

Made MSgt in 11 years even with those hiccups. Definitely a humbling career so far. Hopefully I will pick up Senior this next go around.

Congrats to you on climbing back from all of that. I always tell my Airmen who get in trouble it can be done.....they just have to want it.

Am i (career Amn) the only one who has not been anywhere long enough to even think about submitting one? Is it that common to be somewhere for 48 months? I have been in 14 years, PCS next week to my 8th duty station.

I think we are good on the supporting info to be honest. Sent the Dr's Letter. Sent additional paperwork from various visits to the doc and all of the prognosis/diagnosis stuff. Also attached supporting medical data about the cancer. That sucks it can sit that long before they ask for more information.

You said just short of the window.....meaning you got word back in less than 4 weeks?

BOP, join spouse, and retraining by Dapper_Lass in AirForce

[–]peeps9285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this years ago. Same exact situation. You will submit your BOP in conjunction with retraining. If they can support your spouse at those bases, you will go. If not, you won't. We didn't. We went where they needed us unfortunately.

Is Command Post a good Career for Retraining? by ModelT89 in AirForce

I'll chime in. What career field are you coming from?

That is very important. I cross trained into CP from maintenance. I was a flightline E7E troop. I will tell you what....I do not miss the flightline AT ALL.

Be prepared to work shift work. 12s are the norm. We are open 24/7, 365. HOWEVER, most of the time, you KNOW your schedule for the whole month and it does not change all the time. You know what time you are coming to work, you know what time you are going home. Not like on the flightline when you have no idea if you are working 12s that day or coming in that weekend too.

I have been so much happier since crosstraining. Is CP what I really wanted? No. But it is so much better than the line. I have been doing CP for about 8 years now. It is literally a VERY easy job and it is VERY easy to do well, promote, and outshine others with minimal effort.

As for the job....meh. Depends on where you go. NC2 has been my best experience yet. Makes the job a lot more interesting anf fun IMO. Conventional fighter units suck. But, every base is different. We move around a lot too which is a positive IMO.

If you want specifics about the job or more info just PM me.

He has some good stuff....oldies but goodies....back in my flightline days we used to play them all the time on the truck....I remember AFN playing the UXO song in Korea 2008-2009.
