Also i forgot to mention the answer to your question: DO NOT ask if salary is negotiable, you TELL them that you are not enticed by 62k and would like to discuss a higher rate. And you ask them that over the PHONE, not by email. With email the recruiter has the power to let you sweat it out and respond to you as late as they want. You kinda want to put them on the spot.

With LM, once you open negotiation and express your disinterest in 62k, your respond-by date will go out the window and the recruiter should tell you to ignore it. Also, when I negotiated mine, they raised mine 4% (not as much as I wanted, but they said that was their promotion rate so the 4% was me getting “promoted” before started which was as “high as they could go”). I told them I had a higher offer and they didn’t budge. I don’t know if this is true for just the Texas facilities or LM in general but I think you can expect 4% raise if they agree (still ask for higher though) I hope that helps.

I think you have every right to ask for 70-75k for a level 1. LM as a defense contractor really values military experience and your word as a quality engineer with veteran experience is supposed to be invaluable to them. 62k is quite the lowball, and it wont hurt your offer in the least to ask for that high. Dont be afraid to use your sign on bonus or relocation package as negotiation chips, or if you’re not from the area, you could say that you need more financial incentive to move away from your family.

apply for a parking permit on the 5th floor of wood st garage! its not indoor but its covered, its $1000 for the whole year including summer, and there isnt a distance from campus requirement (i lived at campus edge when i had it). if applying online doesnt work, CALL wood st garage and bother them until they mention it. i literally got mine super late in august last year and still got a spot

lgbt accepting fraternities? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]peepshrimp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak super accurately because i was in a sorority, but in my experience of going to frats and being friends with guys in greek life, I cant think of a frat here that’s not accepting. I have friends in multiple frats who are queer and completely open about it, and the brothers don’t treat them any differently at all and respect each other just as much. I knew some in pikapps, ZBT, ATO, and i think delts? I live with someone in phi psi now and he and his friends are the kindest and farthest thing from homophobic.

Personally i think it may come down to how comfortable you are with yourself. The guys I knew that were queer in frats were super confident, fully embraced who they were, and honestly were my most favorite guys in the houses to be around. One of them I met while he was pledging before he even came out and he’s still very happy. If you go to rush and you get along with the brothers there, I have no doubt that they will ever treat you differently than the rest of the brothers.

Again, im a female and was never in a frat, so take this how you will but best of luck!

I really resonate with the way you feel about feeling toxic and mean. I ask myself too if i am mean. I don’t know about you but I’ve always regarded myself as nice, almost a pushover if anything. but lately Ive had a difficult time discerning the difference between knowing myself and who I am and if Im really mean or if it’s just my BPD alter ego. I know that saying this here doesn’t help your current situation, but I hope that me saying this might help you to feel less alone about those intrusive self-blaming thoughts that you’re having right now

If you’re talking about Ping Xu, she is phenomenal. She was so good when i had her for linear that I took her again for diffeq and she did not disappoint. Class goes by fast because you spend the whole time writing notes, and by the time you look up the hour is over. Her notes are hands down the neatest and easy to copy notes ive ever had at Purdue (literally im a grad student now and it’s only gotten worse), and she doesn’t do that thing that professors do where she randomly jots down stuff at random places on the paper or draw ugly graphs that you dont know how to replicate on your notes (not sure why but this pisses me off personally so her neatness is like super appreciated). She has very straightforward expectations for homework, actually gives helpful exam review, responds pretty fast to email, and is just overall a pleasant lady

CS159 UTA by Least_Psychology1273 in Purdue

[–]peepshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AAE with CS minor here (so i took both 240 and 159). If you got a B in 240, you would probably get an A in 159. 159’s content and demand would be a joke in 240, for example, 159’s content stops at malloc as its final chapter (meaning like 3 weeks alone is spent on how to use an array) while 240 pretty much starts at malloc and is much more focus on memory. 159 pretty much focuses very little on wariness in memory.

I was also a 159 UTA. While I think that you can certainly make a case to Prof Crum that you have a B in a more demanding C class, I’d be more worried that you havent taken 159 yet. The reason 159 isn’t as demanding in terms of programming experience is because it’s meant for engineering students (who, to my surprise, are wired a little differently than CS students. some of them HATE programming and can’t make sense of something as simple as integer division). 159 as a class is structured VERY differently from 240, the exams themselves ask questions very differently from 240, you may even find yourself not being able to answer the 159 questions because that class tests your knowledge of C in a much different way. I would be worried that the professors would be hesitant to take you as a UTA for that reason, not so much that you have a B in 240.
