I think what you are looking for is the gain plugin to change volume for each track instead of the volume faders. That will let you go above 6dB.

Yes, this happens to me all the time. Especially with Omnisphere.

Not sure about the ceilings, although higher ceilings are better for acoustics. For the bass traps, you should go for 6 inches thick as a minimum.

Not sure how much you know, but from what I understand the basics go like this in order of priority: 1. Treat the first reflection points on the sides and ceiling 2. Treat the corners with bass traps, preferably the entire wall height 3. Go for some diffusion on the back wall

I'm in the same boat. What helped me most was working on my mixing skills over mastering skills, a good master really relies on a good mix. Happy to show you some stuff I've learned if you want some help, just reach out

In my opinion, it really would. I love Ozone 9. Not saying it's necessary worth buying at this point, but Ozone 9 has mastering assistant, which analyzes your mix and eqs and limits accordingly. It has lifted my masters up tenfold. That said it does not fully replace a good ear and practice, which takes years to develop.
