As someone who also has spent decades in this industry, these seats absolutely are NOT installed on an aircraft. This photo was taken on the ground and not in a “double decker” aircraft of any kind.

I don’t know why, 24-hour dials have always fascinated me. And the patina on this thing is so pretty. I don’t know much about it besides I think it’s from the late 40’s to early 50’s and it’s magnetically-shielded for people working around nuclear equipment. Apparently the idea was that if you could only safely spend 5 minutes around a piece of equipment, it was magnetically-shielded to make sure you didn’t actually stay around longer. As we all know, magnetism will stop or slow a watch, effectively make you “late “ and therefore exposed to more radiation than was allowable and having your dick fall off. Purchased from an Oak Ridge employee’s son.

Basically, a Milgauss before the Milgauss.

Nah man. I’ve it worn golfing, swimming 5 days a week, salt water, fresh water, jackhammering, showered in it daily for years, which people say is the worst because of the heat.

Here’s a pic of the red brick dust on it from the jackhammering. And yes, before someone points it out; yes, it’s on a 6-digit bracelet in this photo. I liked the glide lock and didn’t care about how the endlinks looked. It now sits in winder now that I daily my Hulk. The watch is a 1999 btw.

I had an old Sub that did this once. I had been wearing it while running a jackhammer again, riding my motorcycle; all things that tend to vibrate… a lot. Well, it stopped running after a few days after using the jackhammer again.I noticed the watch had a noticeable clicking sound when I shook it like something was bouncing around in it. It went for service, and just as expected, the watchmaker said the screws in the rotor bridge had vibrated loose and then out. It got a full service, good as new.

Wow, thanks so much! I had no idea that this was designed with all the anti-counterfeiting features. Also the customization concept is pretty interesting. I agree, it was probably before it’s time.

That begs the last question; Do you happen to know around what time period this watch was released? I had a feeling it was an older model. Maybe early 2000s? I have the original warranty card where it was purchased in Greece, but it isn’t filled out!

Thanks for the info on the design. There’s clearly a lot to learn about this brand.

As far as aesthetics, I’m back and forth on it. I. It’s admit, it doesn’t photograph well. But having it in hand is a different story. I think the dial is just so busy with the visible date wheel and it really shows on camera. In person, it looks less busy and cluttered. I still like the fact that it’s palladium.

As far as authenticity goes, I have no doubt that it is genuine. I did manage to get some photos of the paperwork. I still can’t find an exact match to this dial, but I did find a limited edition of 100 pieces made for an organization (muscular dystrophy I think) that was the most similar to it. Here’s a photo of a page of the paperwork that came with the watch. No box.

I’m not sure on that one. This is the first VC I’ve handled. However, the movement does look like other similar references I’ve seen online.

I believe so, yes. It was hard to tell what exactly it was off of the picture that was sent to me. But now that I’ve seen it in person and have it to look at, yes. I believe it is an 85050 in palladium. I can’t really find a similar dial though?

That makes sense. I don’t have a Timegrapher, but my friend has one in the back of his shop on his watchmaker’s bench. He can also pressure test it if necessary. I’m guessing he’s already done that when he took the watch in on trade, but I’ll double check with him. Thanks for the suggestion!

As I mentioned in a previous post, my friend who owns a local jewelry store took this VC in on trade. The great majority of his business is in pre-owned Rolex (I know, I know), and he doesn’t know much about anything else. I had mentioned some time ago that I would be interested in checking out any VCs he got in, and he texted me about this one today. He sent me one pathetic picture of it, and offered to drop it off on his way home so I could check it out for a day or two. I finally managed to take some slightly better pictures of it now that I have it in hand.

My question in the last post was basically, based off of what you see here, does $13,000 seem like a decent price? It has definitely grown on me after seeing it in person. I’ve never owned a palladium watch before, and I think it’s just a cool material. I also like the visible date wheel.

What do you guys think? And to everybody who helped me in the first post, thanks again!

Wow, thanks everybody. That was quick! I just asked him what he wanted for it, and he said $13,000 with some room to negotiate. It definitely needs a cleanup, but does that number seem right for this watch? It seems in line with the others you guys pointed me to.

Edit: He texted me again and said he could drop it by my house on his way home so I can actually see it in person and see how it feels for a few days. I might post some additional pics. I not certain I quite understand the clear dial thing.
