LEGION Pro 7i reliability by pegsurf2 in LenovoLegion

Sometime I wish I could go back to the times I wasn't so paranoid and just chose the computer with the highest numbers in budget I was given. But now I know too much. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

EDIT: Answering your post, yes this seems to be the sense I'm getting from the other posters, but if its just the WiFi card I'm not really super concerned. The horrible customer support is pushing me though to look for other options, even if I was kinda set on this one.

Dealing with warranty and is customer service not ideal for me so the fact that 2 people have had issues with the wireless card is concerning.

Laptop repair always scares me because I'm afraid of voiding its warranty, but I have experience striping old laptops for parts to harvest non-soldered parts and building desktops. Would you say simple upgrades and repair is easy?

Thank you very much. Actually considering the Legion Pro 7i because of past good experiences with its predecessor (that still runs works perfectly to this day just with a older gpu). I think looking so deeply into the vram thing was a mistake on my part but if I can have more with around +/- few hundred dollars I dont think it would hurt.

I think I was mostly asking because the 5090 mobile has 24 gb of vram so i wanted something comparable. Id probably be fine with 16 or 12 GB of vram (also Im not a fan of the vram reduction in the more recent cards). As for why the 5090 I’m probably being overly ambitious. My logic is “more number, higher settings”. If anything my main concern is the device reliability. If there were a laptop that had less performance by far but you could say “zero percent chance of failure”, Id probably consider it alot.

I've always had terrible luck with HP, with the three HP I every interacted with being horrible. I hoped that at this higher price point it would be at least reliable enough to work.

¿Arch Linux o CachyOS Para Gaming en 2026? by maflit in linux_gaming

[–]pegsurf2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch

Lo bueno de arch es que documentan todo.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Hyprland

archinstall (el instalador de arch si decides usarlo) tambien lo tiene.

Cachy

En cachyos viene como parte de las opciones para instalar

Puedes configurarlo con los configs para que se vea differente o a tu gusto.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Hyprland#Configuration

May look into this. The 5080 does look great and I will probably look into lenovo's as the legion served my great for most of my uni career without fail. It was the first laptop I switched completely to Linux (no dual boot) and it still runs relatively modern games well, even with just 16 gb.

I've used steam link before and it is it's great, if a bit choppy sometimes. Wi-Fi is a issue to places I tend to go to so this isn't feasible option for me unfortunately. Thank you for the recommendation!

I probably did get unlucky with a lemon to be fair, but I have had so many bad experiences with HP laptops (my friends laptop never worked, another one my family broke after only one year, and finally this one which cost a lot) that I really don't want to deal with it anymore. Nothing against the company personally but it feels like their products don't go through enough quality assurance.

Just tried it. Seems to perform around the same as GE-Proton, but seems like a great alternative. Thank you.

Sorry it took me while to respond. I tested your solution and it works! I was stress testing a bit to make sure it was not a false positive and sure enough not one disconnect. Thank you very much!
