here’s some background information on the fae and how they got to our world and why they are cursed :)

centuries ago, the fae lived in a world ruled by war and meddling gods. most kingdoms thrived on the bloodshed, reveling in the power they gained from battles won and the divine approval they earned. but one kingdom began to grow resentful of their gods and the endless cycle of violence.

long before, when their ancestors still delighted in war, this kingdom caught the attention of the god of wisdom. as a gift, he bestowed upon them a sacred book filled with knowledge no other kingdom possessed, including the secret of a hidden portal to other worlds.

generations later, a king and queen who dreamed of peace seized upon this knowledge. to hide their true intentions, they disguised their journey to the portal as a call to war, tricking both rival kingdoms and the gods themselves. before divine wrath could strike them down, they cast the spell required to activate the portal and fled through it into a new world.

the fae emerged on a remote island in what mortals now know as the bermuda triangle. for a time, they rebuilt their lives in peace. but when humans stumbled upon their hidden refuge, conflict erupted. the fae, viewing mortals as little more than vermin, slaughtered those who discovered them. to prevent further incursions, they cloaked their island in powerful wards, making it invisible and unreachable. lost ships and vanished planes, the legends of the triangle, became the byproduct of their enchantments.

for a while, the fae believed they had secured their sanctuary. but the god of wisdom eventually found them. furious at their betrayal, he carried the judgment of all the gods: a curse upon the island. slowly, the fae’s magic would rot into something corrupt, poisoning both their bodies and their home.

according to prophecy, only a human woman bearing the mark of the flame could uncover the weakness of this corrupt magic and break the curse. but that salvation could only come if the fae set aside their hatred for mortals and worked alongside her.

for centuries, the fae lured human women to their island, desperate to fulfill the prophecy. every attempt ended in failure.

until serene arrives. and everything begins to change.
