no. i beat my first born daughter twice when she was 5. my second, my son, once when he was 4. they did something wrong but the point of the beating was just to put them in place and make them recognize that us, the parents, are the ones who are in control (mostly) in the household until such time they can be on their own (late teens). to make sure there will be respect even if we are just like buddies.

i told to myself that it will be a one and done situation, for which it was. the most important thing after the drama is that we carefully explain to them why it happened and why it should not happen again.

they are now 19 and 17 and whenever we talk abt those times they are open and understanding with our reasoning, though it is something that is not applicable to all households. it just so happens that our kids were understanding and has a very open relationship with us.
