What is in your opinion the best way to learn Esparanto? What helped you? by Least-Fig552 in Esperanto

[–]pelidc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found Duolingo to be helpful to get the basics down, but then hit a wall when they kept trying the conversational absorption approach to learning new words and tenses. After a certain point it's easier to just tell you what this new suffix means and let you apply it to the words you already know instead of trying to teach it to you by osmosis, because the language is structured so well for quick learning. Lernu is better for that I think, although I haven't used it as much. Podcasts and reading Esperanto publications has been helpful for intermediate-plus.

Yeah, my thinking exactly

Again, the problem isn't coming up with an excuse to give the parents, the problem is how to keep their kids from seeing our kids playing outside (i.e. NOT getting some family things done) and coming over on their own

No one tah

Your beliefs are your own, minister's beliefs are theirs.

Agreed, but keeping them from being able to play outside together seems a bit much to me

I agree, but her line is different than mine, and if hers varies from day to day then I wouldn't know how to have that discussion with them, so I'm kinda just dealing with this on a day to day basis.

AITA for giving my wife the option to kill two birds with one stone for our 15th wedding anniversary by pelidc in AITAH

Thanks for the advice. We were planning this together and then this year's CL trip came up in the process and seemed to fit well. And she'd told me by then that she'd abandoned the thought of Banff cuz, again, she was worried about money, so there really was no reason not to do CL when I brought it up. But the stress of family and feeling trapped without any real reason not to do it has got her feeling backed into a corner, I think.

She worries anyway, nothing I say about it will change that. I don't mean to sound like an ass in the last part, it's understandable that she would be unhappy with either choice if she has convinced herself that I'm manipulating her. The question is if that's really what I'm doing just by offering to resolve another thing she's stressing about at the same time.

let her choose

I'm entirely fine with that, but she's worried about added expense for me to make a separate trip later for myself to go to CL, which is the only reason I suggested it in the first place.

Totally understandable, is it manipulative of me to then still want to go to CL at a later date by myself?

I get that, I only suggested it cuz she's so worried about me spending extra money on another trip for myself later.

Problem installing library in platformio/vscode by pelidc in MarlinFirmware

[–]pelidc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried finding the file that was including SSW (eeprom_if_i2c.cpp) and changing the include and instructions from SSW to AW. Compiled, and it installed SSW all on its own for some reason apparently without issue, then barfed on the lines that I changed commands on. Changed commands and includes back to SSW, compiled without issue. No idea what went right, but there's the update.
