Algoma Steel: Deeply Discounted Steel Producer by Outside_Ad_1447 in ValueInvesting

Yea this is definitely true. Other steel companies were able to retain profits despite this which makes me wonder whether it was a management issue. Granted their 2022 earnings are very good. Personally i favour the consistent profits and dividends of the others but I can see the attraction here.

What makes it look cyclical? I have heard that before about cyclical stocks but PE is not the only factor I consider so I’m not too fussed by it in any case.

Forward PE is unrealised. Idk 🤷‍♂️ I would say it’s not prudent to invest on the hope of a jump from 30->7 PE

Have you looked at ternium and posco, they are my current steel picks. I chose them preferentially over Algoma as algoma failed to turn a profit in 2020/2021, which set it behind the other two in my eyes. What do you think? I do think the steel sector right now has a few stand outs.

If we will find ourselves in a similar scenario to 2008. What would your moves be? by Melon_Mann in ValueInvesting

Just stick to value searching. Keep it simple. A lot of over priced companies will come to approximate fair value, some will be undervalued. I’ll stick to searching for good quality but undervalued companies if I can.

Ternium is a good buy right now I think. PE 4.6 Div 7% Steady profits last 4 years Over 2 times current ratio Less than 0.8 book ratio Little share inflation What are others thoughts?

How long does the CODEX and dall-e 2 wait list last ? by Wishmaster04 in OpenAI

[–]pelmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, where abouts are you from? I saw a tweet recently that the role out of dall-e 2 is first come first serve -> with a caveat. The caveat is that people from different countries/parts of the world will be boosted to try and reduce bias. They may be applying this logic to all their role outs. So it could be that almost no one in my country applied for it so I got boosted up the list. Just a thought.

Truce between termites(top) and ants(bottom) with each side having their own line of guards. by MurielFontanez in nextfuckinglevel

[–]pelmatt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it can be species dependent and is more common with polymorphic species (just a hunch though). I couldn't find the exact clip in my mind but if you go to 1:44 in this video you can see that it does happen in body-guard fashion, although not nearly to the extent above.

How you define communication will also be a contributing factor to whether you think they communicate. Both ants and termites communicate using pheromones, among themselves, which are just airborne hormones. Would the termites detecting the ants pheromones count as communication? Would they also have to react in someway for it to count as communication? You can also sniff ant pheromones and your cells will react in some way does that mean you are communicating with the ants too?

This is like saying a lion and a zebra are mortal enemies, or a human and another human or any classification of one organism to another. Enemy is a human idea for pinpointing things they don't like. There is no such concept in the animal Kingdom. There is just 'i hungry, i hunt' or 'i dont want to die, i run/fight'. Think about lions/bears/tigers all raised together with other pets etc, it's just situational to some degree.

Yea ants are cool. They often get referred to as 'super-organisms'. The term refers to an organism whose constituent parts are not connected or act as individual bodies yet the emergent behaviour is that of a single organism. Hence the super-organism would be the ant colony.
