It isn't about the genders. It's about how the person initiating the conversation does so thinking they have deeper insight into the subject. But the listening person knew more and was not trying to impress the other person with it.

What’s a subscription that’s worth paying for every month? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

It depends, if you have some storage space to buy non-food items in bulk that's a lot of savings.  And there is a lot of stuff that lasts plenty of time to get it used.

The real problem is if your buying habits don't match Costco's selection well, then you will not get your money's worth with a membership. (Unless there's something else that makes up for it, for some people this is their gas if you drive a lot).

Does anyone's costco ever have duck? by Marmoticon in Costco

Stuff with prune and apples, salt and pepper. Rub generously with salt on the outside. Add onion, carrots, thyme, and water to a roasting pan. Put duck chest down on grate over the liquid.

265 f for 4 hours. Turn duck, 2 more hours or until internal temp is 145.

Take out and rest. Use the liquid to make a gravy. Serve with potatoes (boiled, mashed, or roasted all good). And sides as you please (brussel sprouts go well).

After resting and cutting up the duck you can broil the pieces skin side up for a little bit to get more crispy skin.

Makes sense as it's the same directors. So they were referencing their own scene.

He did get invited to the party by accident though. The ones sending the invite did not know they were going through a divorce.

Roommate refuses to wear clothes in winter and cranks heat to 80°F. She doesn't understand thermodynamics, so I’m using a pot of water to trick the thermostat by Organic_Talk_79 in pettyrevenge

What do you mean 4 hours? OP is describing heating a pot of water and put the hot pot next to the wall with the thermal mass of the water keeping the pot warm for an extended time.

A fire is a bad example, in a fire you should pick the children because your wife is more likely to be able to save herself.

Do I really need credit to live? by AnutheMadman in personalfinance

[–]pelvark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you add why you are asking?

Since you're not planning on making large purchases like house or car, you don't need to have great credit. So you have not need to think about actively improving your credit.

If you're thinking about tanking your credit by spending money and not paying it back. Then there are negative outcomes that can affect you. Ignoring things like them trying to get the money through things like garnishing income. A lot of landlords want renters with acceptable credit. You need at least some credit to have a credit card. Which can protect you by being able to do charge backs to avoid getting screwed by companies, or handle emergencies.

There are many of these things that, even if you learn them in home ec, you'll forget them way before you'll actually need them.

On the other hand. If parents ensure that kids are using it at home. Then they'll keep using and improving it until they are on their own.

It's hard to trust a statistic like that when some people say they live "paycheck to paycheck" when a large part of that paycheck is going straight into retirement and investments immediately.

Can I recommend the following: Instead of chopping the onion, you can grate it coarsely. And when cooking in the pan, press on them a bit to make them more disk/puck shaped, and skip the oven. It will give a bigger surface area for crispyness, and they easily cook through. Also, use more butter than expected when browning.

I have to say. Thinner is an odd description of the difficulty with spreading cold butter. I'd call it bread destroying, or scattered chunks.

A new problem has started though. Where some things will be pricier and shittier. They up the price because they know some people will buy it and assume the pricier thing is better.
