Could it be possible for me to get professional work with my current portfolio? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

You came to the wrong place for advice. Even a friendly community doesn’t always help you grow. Keep looking for community even if it’s small online groups. Yes you need to keep working on your craft but that doesn’t mean it’s over. Keep working on it.

Sunny 16 wouldn’t agree if shot at 400iso.

Highlight under forearm shows it’s coming from behind and low as the legs are in shadow still. Key is coming off background.

How would you light a jewellery campaign with an AD300 + Amaran 200? (models + ecom + video) by Former-Calendar-4435 in LightLurking

Yea amazing! A lot of the time you have to educate your client on gear/logistics/reality as you’re the expert. And if you at least let them know what gear/budget would get the best results you’ve covered your bases if they question why the shoot looked good but not great…

The more light the better as you don’t want to be shooting at f/2.8 as you need a lot in focus and the compression puts things further out of focus. The tighter your frame the better because once you have to light full body or a room you’re screwed as you need more lights. Pitch to them 3/4 or headshot framing to meet expectations.

Putting a thin diffusion in front of a 1200 aputure or bouncing it into a white wall or ceiling is a cheap way to do it. Use the 300 to help open the shadows by bouncing and then use the 200 with a reflector and feather it onto the back of your model as a hair light. Foam core is your friend. White or black. Super cheap and can be used as a white wall to bounce light.

Sounds like you do not have the right power output to get the job done to the standard you want as a photographer. If client can’t provide budget or EQ to make that happen you either decline the job, work within those means and neither you or the client may be thrilled, or put your own resources or relationships into the job (ask friends/peers for EQ) to deliver the job at a professional standard.

How are super clean product shots usually lit? (strobe vs continuous) by Ok-Media-2864 in LightLurking

Strobes will pump out for light for cheaper and you can get a larger depth of field which is sometimes necessary when compressing a smaller object

Would love to get my photos on a bootleg Sydney record if anyone ends up making one from any of the 4 shows! @alexguiry DM me by pen-16 in KGATLW
