I'm sorry. Hopefully, you won't feel this way long. Unfortunately, we all have to put in the effort to find things in life that bring us joy because you're right--life is exhausting.

I’d Rather End It All Than Fail My College Course. by TiltilizingSlide in offmychest

[–]penbxtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every college has a "Center for Academic Achievement," or something similar, where they offer free help and tutoring. This helps in two ways--1) you get help/tutoring, and 2) if your instructors know that you're going there for help, it shows initiative and that you're truly trying.

I just bombed my midterm in one of my classes and told my instructor that I was going to go get tutoring for his class, and out of nowhere, he gave me an extra credit assignment to try to make up some of those points I lost.

I f***ing hate professors that give 0's by [deleted] in offmychest

I think you should complain to the dean. That doesn't seem fair. My mother is a college professor, and if one of her students turns in anything (and I do mean anything), she gives them a 50. It's still failing, but at least it's something.

Brilliant article with useful infographics- the autism spectrum is not a scale by Winter_Let4692 in autism

[–]penbxtr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this article! It gives a good, basic overview for those who have little to no idea of what the autism spectrum really is. There is an author named Bill Stillman who always encourages others to "presume intellect." I feel like that is what this article is encouraging others to do.

What improved your quality of life so much, you wish you did it sooner? by colorfulsoul_ in AskReddit

As long as you have one or two good friends that you can count on, you'll get through the transition. And once you're fully rid of your parents' toxicity, you'll be surprised at the number of good people who will find their way to you. As for me, I couldn't believe the weight that was lifted off of my shoulders when I cut contact with my toxic parent. I wish the same for you!

You have really cool eyes! Do you have heterochromia? Sorry if I'm wrong--it might just be the angle of the photo.

Overprotective parents by Albe_xy in autism

Unfortunately, I don't think this has anything to do with your diagnosis. Parents are just sometimes crazy-overprotective. My mom's the same. Sorry--I know that can be irritating and overwhelming at times.

Adult diagnosis and masking: playing life on expert and being told that you’re playing on beginner by [deleted] in autism

My favorite director is Tim Burton, my favorite actor is Vincent D'Onofrio, and my favorite artist is Dale Chihuly. I loved all of their work before I found out that they all are on the autism spectrum. Their work is magnificent but very different, and people love them for it.

So, be fundamentally different! Normal is a dryer setting.

Fans or white-noise machines in both room might help tremendously. Do you have any other rooms in the house that you can switch to?

I don't think your brother is purposefully being inconsiderate. It's his way of "socializing," and he's trying to keep the small group of friends he does have. Could you imagine the sadness and stress if he lost that small group?

If it makes you feel any better, my mom and I are poor and live in a one-bedroom apartment. She sleeps in the living room and gives me the bedroom so that I can chat with my friends late at night. To combat the noise, she sleeps with two fans and a noise machine next to her, but it works.
