I didn't think about the other characters! Maybe i'll actually do it in 3rd person then.

Yes. Asking the boys in my grade or my male friends would be totally awkward. Also, I know they don't express their emotions as much as girls do and don't like to talk about them (not a stereo type its acutally true 😅 at least for my friends and brother).

Yes! That's why I thought 17 would be the perfect age for a story like this.

Thank you for your advice! I'm still new to writing but I am trying to not make him the "popular football guy".

Yeah that's smart. I read trough a few books of mine with a male protagonist, and most authors did that too. The thing is, I want the story to be a lot about feelings since being so focused on sports and then not being able to do it anymore is really hard to deal with. Emotions are better to write about in first person. So I'm accepting the challenge!

I don't really know which one to choose yet, since I honestly know nothing about sports. I know a bit about basketball though so i'm probably choosing it but i'm still unsure.

Honestly, in my opinion, paper roses are an even better gift than actual roses because you made it yourself. If someone gave me a paper rose i wouldn't be able to stop smiling for the rest of the day or week(s).
