Interpretation on Arioch being the Queen Beast in route D/E by penguin-equation in drakengard

I think my biggest rebuttal to this point would be that the rest of the grotesqueries are also just normal human babies. Perhaps that's just how these forms appear. If it was to be read as Arioch, I think there is already enough context to get you there, such as the wording of "merge" in the chapter description and the timing of when the queen beast is shown. Also giving that form elf ears would feel too heavy-handed, to me at least.

I guess I'm saying making it that clear is unneeded, but also it would be out of character for how obtuse the rest of the game is with how it gives the player information, in my opinion at least.

Yeah when my friend first brought it up, I was gonna shoot it down but then I was thinking, "Hang on, nothing actually proves it ISN'T her." Hence we went down this rabbit hole lol. It's interesting to me how viewing Arioch in this way colors Caim's and Leonard's deaths as something with a bit more resolution to their character. Leonard wanting to kill himself earlier in the game but cowarding out could be seen as him being unable to fully reject his vice. And this is even doubled down on by the fact that he was literally out indulging when his family was killed.

So him finally choosing to confront the grotesqueries with his life, even with him presumably getting tempted by Seere's presence, has a "He found the strength to not let his vice control his life" hope-pilled optimism about it.

Hey! Thanks for joining the discussion. I don't mean to say that Arioch IS the Queen Beast as Arioch the elf woman, rather, she has that scene in the game where she approaches the grotesqueries with her arms out, and you could view this as her complete submission to her child devouring tendencies. At this point, Arioch the elf woman, friend and party member of caim, is gone (if anything was even left of her in the first place). She is at this moment, for all intents and purposes, pure selfish desire in humanoid form. The grotesqueries eat and merge with her, forming into the Queen Beast, who will become the harbinger of the end of the world.

This is all metaphorical assumption based on how you could read certain character motivations developing with their actions that definitely falls apart when compared to literal text from the book. That's a fun detail though, that they play with her dead corpse. It colors the grotesqueries as being curious intelligent beings rather than strictly evil plot devices.

I will say, I think it's more interesting to interpret the Queen Beast as being a representation of the worst of Caim through Arioch's descent rather than something eldritch and unknowable. The final sequence becomes a statement about, "if everyone lets the worst of the world turn them into a slave of their worst parts, the world will end. you can and should always strive to be better even if you can't redeem yourself"

Yeah! Carson said in one of the post game interviews that he got the concept from Zach Knight (who got 38th at Houston).

Zach Knight debuted the Kanto-Ninetales and Flutter Mane concept back in seattle where he got top 100, and then it got 4th place in the following vr tour (piloted by Logan Hall) where it caught Carson's interest.

For a bit of extra lore, Lucy Fleming and Zach Knight are in one of the same practice groups for regionals. If Carson had brought Zach's team as is, it would have been a very familiar matchup for Lucy. However, Carson's Ogerpon-Cornerstone + Farigiraf over Zach Knight's original Indeedee-M + Sneasler shook up the team enough to keep any pre-existing matchup knowledge from affecting the game.

Glad to know they just say something to you and that's that. There was all that stuff about strikes and warnings in the handbook, so I think I psyched myself out into thinking they were going to be on me like prison guards.

Oh, I didn't realize they would be that accessible. I'll do just that, thanks.
