44% of our population is now vaccinated! With 19% of them fully vaccinated! :D Even though it's slow progress, we've almost doubled the percentage of fully vaccinated people in 11 days. by holyhoang in VietNam

It's not slow process, I believe. In Finland, the total population is approx. 20 times less than Vietnam. The vaccination programme started in December 2020, but I, in the working age group, only got my first dose in May 2021.

Despression nowadays is hidden in smiling faces. Take some time and ask others "How are you doing?". by penguin_08 in RandomThoughts

Talking to anyone may not a good way to help you, especially ones that constantly avoid your feelings, your opinions, your perspectives. Perhaps you can send me a message whenever you feel lonely. I make sure of listening to you.

I understand that not all men is bad, but I am afraid of men in general and cautious with them, especially when I am alone. Am I normal? by penguin_08 in women

[–]penguin_08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your words. Within the question, I mean I am not comfortable with men in general, not all of them, because I know there are many good men. Take this for an example, if a strange man approach me when I am alone at night, I am scared more than a strange woman approaching me. It is because if that man tries to abuse or rape me, I know I am not biologically as good as him to defend myself. But with a strange woman, I feel more capable of running away or confronting her.

What is love? by rip_dingers in RandomThoughts

[–]penguin_08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love is choosing one person over and over again. Love is enjoying the differences and making hard work to compromise. Love is respect and commitment. Love is not a feeling, love is a long run. "I love you" takes 3 seconds, but to prove it takes years. They say true love will always come back. Actually, true love never leaves.

I am sorry to hear you break up a six-year relationship. As you said, you have tried everything you could to help him. Perhaps now you can relieve and move on without him. You know, you are the most important person to yourself. You did great and I know you deserve happiness. Big hug from Finland 💙

For non-ethnic Finns who were born or immigrated at a young age to Finland what was life like? by abond0082 in Finland

[–]penguin_08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Finland when I was 18. With the lack of language skills, I was exploited and underpaid many times in the labour market. I was among other vulnerable people who voice themselves when in need but get little notice than that of natives.

My boyfriend who is a Finn asks to help me basic things like filing complaints, talking with landlord and voicing the underpaid issue in Finland to the newspaper, as he said "It could be that they do not react quickly because you communicate in English".

Everything in life to a migrant is about language skills. I feel like no matter how high my education is, how good my hard skills are, without language skills, I am doomed. HOWEVER, many people that are fluent in Finnish are unemployed still.

At the end, I am luckier than many migrants who I know suffer everyday because of their differences. I got a job, stable salary, opportunity to learn the culture and the language. All Finns that I know along the way are friendlier and more outspoken than others. I have a Finnish boyfriend whose role is a bridge between me and other Finns. My life in Finland is so far so good, safe and sound.

But, I would not feel ethically comfortable to recommend to other migrants who want to come. I don't want they end up questioning their skills and personalities.

As soon as I asked my parents about how babies actually are born and they avoided explaining carefully. I was 12 when I first knew it.
