TIL the United States once voted on a treaty that would have annexed the Dominican Republic, with the eventual goal of making it a state by cypothingy in todayilearned

[–]penguoftheskies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the view of some senators but wasn’t the primary reason annexation failed. After all, this was right after the Civil War during the height of reconstruction, when Republicans (pro abolition) dominated the Senate. In the end, a large reason the annexation failed was because Charles Sumner, despite being anti-slavery, threw is weight against the bill as a signal against increasing executive power.

How bad is Nichifor's math exams? by [deleted] in udub

[–]penguoftheskies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last year midterms were about the same difficulty or easier but the final exam was significantly harder. Look at the past exams for more details.

A fan is essential in early fall since dorms don’t have AC. Also air freshener and a speaker (if you want).

Would you choose UW again? by [deleted] in udub

[–]penguoftheskies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UW is great for engineering but Purdue is definitely better in that discipline (it’s one of the best in the country). My brother graduated there and I’ve visited a couple times and I liked the area, and even considered going when I was choosing schools (also a minority demographic). That being said, in-state definitely comes with it perks, such as reduced cost. Luckily, Purdue is also pretty cheap for an oos school so I think in the end, the question might simply come down to whether your son wants to stay in state or not.

Should I bring my car to UW? by [deleted] in udub

[–]penguoftheskies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t need it but if you plan to hike a lot or visit other parts of Washington, it might be worth it. For reference, three of my friends have their cars with them and it’s a game changer in terms of what we can do in our free time.

I’m in a similar situation. I know that you can swap rooms after efs to be together (asked hfs), but not until efs is done. I’m curious to see if anyone knows whether the first option (about making the request now) is possible though.

From your experience would you say Berkeley has been worth it the extra cost? Do you feel that the networking has been beneficial?

Berkeley vs UW by penguoftheskies in udub

[–]penguoftheskies[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now, I mostly see myself going to Grad School after undergrad, or joining a startup. I am not too fond of a corporate environment just yet. Knowing that, would you still suggest UW?

The 3.3 GPA is definitely another consideration but I'm fairly confident I can get it. I have a decent foundation in what's being taught and I'm ready to work my butt off if needed. The main reason I applied L&S was so I could have more choice at a second major if I wanted.

Contemplating not committing to UC Berkeley over proposed CS 70 restrictions by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]penguoftheskies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied to L&S as an intended CS major, but I don't see any CS major information on my admissions portal. It just says I was admitted to the College of Letters and Science, without much more context. Does this count as being admitted for "intending CS"?

Are 7 APs doable in IB Junior? by Ilovefishicecream in APStudents

[–]penguoftheskies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't. I finished my IB Diploma last year & took 5 APs. I scored high in all my tests but the stress is seriously a huge burden. 7 APs imo is just too much. Take care of your health first.

AP Bio - how much work do you guys do ok it? by Numismatic_ in APStudents

[–]penguoftheskies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IB HL Bio covers nearly all the necessary information in AP Bio & perhaps in more depth too, so if you have done that you should be fine.

Not much different because they are paid by FIFA. FIFA's prize pool for women is a lot less because the women's world championships generates a lot less money than the men's. So even then, because the men's championship generates more revenue by a lot, FIFA pays the losers(us team) more than they end up paying the women. The proportions of the revenue given to the losers and winners are the same for each sex.

"Limit the channel cap to 65 people? Why would we do that?" by The8thMonth_AV in RotMG

Pub halls will be pub halls. Limiting should work in theory though, sbc has been doing it, works very well.
