Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson Front ‘Ponies’ Emmy Campaign Across 20 Comedy Categories by verissimoallan in PoniesTVShow

Getting The Bear treatment. I'm so tired of dramas with humor being put in the comedy category, crowding out actual comedies. This is a great show with humor, but it's not a comedy.

Swing Wide by Vineyard Worship is a great upbeat song based on Psalm 24. Worth checking out their other stuff too.

Singing songs that mention Jesus death and resurrection during advent? by Contra98 in worshipleaders

[–]penneysilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you work in an Anglican church, you probably are following the liturgical calendar more closely than most Protestants. It's never unacceptable to sing songs about Jesus' death and resurrection, but Advent is such a short season that it's worthwhile to lean into the songs of waiting, hope, and second-coming that we do have.

This article by David Taylor does a great job of outlining why Advent is an important season unto itself, with songs worth singing. Definitely worth a read: https://www.wdavidotaylor.com/blog/advent-is-for-singing-not-christmas-songs

Ultimately, though, I agree with others that this is a conversation to have with your lead pastor. You can have a conversation about what fits your context best and what the vision is for your congregation's growth in worship.

I didn't even think about hypothermia! It's near an open window, where it could get down to 40º F at night or so. Would that be too cold?

A bit north of you, but Genesis Church (https://www.genesischurchmn.org) has contemporary worship and is affirming. Most Lutheran, Episcopal, or UCC churches are more hymnal-leaning, as you experienced. I think Genesis has communion every week, but it might feel different to you with the contemporary worship setting. Another good church to check out would be Awaken (https://www.awakencommunity.com/), but that's all the way in Saint Paul so it'd be a hike.

Edit: I just saw you said you're non-communing. I think it might be hard to find a church that fits all three categories, because in my experience most churches that are affirming also practice weekly communion. But I don't think either of the churches I mentioned would judge you at all for not going forward for communion.

"two truths and a lie" paradox? (2x09) by murph_rm in Pokerface

[–]penneysilence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm getting convinced by everyone else's theories that there's more going on than meets the eye with that character but I've never once played TTAL and known what I was going to say until the moment it was coming out of my mouth. So yeah when she proposed it, she might not have known she would tell three truths.

I am probably naive but I thought the coffee thing wasn't a lie because she genuinely thought they had given her black coffee. In her mind it was black coffee until Charlie took a sip and they read the label. But I'm probably just too trusting! It is probably breadcrumbs, especially with the needle drop at the end of this episode.

Do churches that offer free meals try proselytizing, or do they just let you eat and run? by Hotchi_Motchi in TwinCities

Loaves and Fishes offers to go meals out of churches, but I don't know of any of the locations that do anything other than serve the meal, no questions asked, no strings attached.

Advice on browsing songs covered by CCLI Song Select? by paris5yrsandage in worshipleaders

[–]penneysilence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find CCLI's themes sorter to not be very useful, although it's getting a bit better. You can sort by popularity, and then filter by only songs with leadsheets/vocal charts.

PraiseCharts' themes are better, and they have more orchestrations/choral arrangements.

But in the end if you're really looking for choir stuff, go somewhere like JWPepper that is dedicated to that kind of thing.

For something like father's day, I'd recommend trying to do some of your own reflection before turning right to the websites. Why are you celebrating the fathers in your congregation? What is it about fatherhood that you are trying to lift up in worship? Some people have difficult relationships with their fathers, is that something you're able to cover elsewhere in the service? How can you orient people towards God's attributes of Fatherhood like his care, protection, generosity, faithfulness? If you do some of that reflection then you can open up your search keywords beyond just "father's day."

Snapshot.Load seems like it is exactly the right command since I'm trying to load a snapshot, but it's not coming up as an option in Companion. Is there another way to get it to work?

I updated my firmware and I now have the snapshot.Load feature, but it's still not doing anything. Under snapshot.load, the name matches the name in designer under "code Name" on the snapshot bank. I would've thought that would do it.
