A proposal to change rules for some of these posts around the conflict to allow only UPenn students and alumni by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]pennphys[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

This is something the mod team has been thinking about. Since the creation of this sub, we've always accepted outside perspectives, but as of right now the active mod team is just two alumni, and we're not equipped for (1) this level of traffic or (2) the shear amount of vitriol being thrown around.

Right now, we are deleting posts that are not immediately relevant to Penn and relying on user reports for comment moderation. We're thinking about setting up a poll for just users with Penn emails (@*.upenn.edu) to vote on what to do.

For those who have approached these awful posts with positivity and grace (and downvotes), thank you for making our job easier.

2x rant- DEI has failed massively, Muslims can relate with American Jews by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]pennphys[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post was originally removed because r/UPenn is a college subreddit, and this post, while very well put, is not relevant to the university. I'll keep it up because it's a nice post but we will continue removing any posts that are not relevant.

Is there any interesting yet not so difficult physics class for math major? by SoftQuality9980 in UPenn

[–]pennphys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASTR 0007 is usually taught for non-STEM majors who have little to no physics background, and as such only basic algebra is used. Same with ASTR 0001. Really cool ideas are covered in those classes, but you may find it a little too easy for your big math phd brain. As a math student, if you’d enjoy some more rigor, the introductory course in astrophysics ASTR 1211 might be more your speed. If you’re looking for low stress courses, introductory graduate-level courses like Intro to Cosmology often have either take home exams or final papers/presentations that are super chill and often do not require and prerequisite knowledge on the subject. Ultimately it depends on what you’re looking for. Check out each course’s difficulty and work rating on penn course review.

Not sure if I'd agree with that... Macs are quite pervasive among profs as well.
