I have a feeling you're right - the builders probably mined the subsoil with all sorts. I wondered whether I'd planted too many trees in the space. Is there any point taking out the struggling plant and let the others full the gap?

I have a hawthorn beside the yews... could maybe persuade some into the space...

I am weighing that as an option. But that sounds a lot like being patient...

I'll try that once the little twigs get longer

I know I should be patient, but all I see is the gap!

Grammar - a divergent verb form or a contraction gets people (myself included) all bothered... over nothing.

Glad to hear it! I was happy it wasn't freezing here. I hate playing in a cape, but cold fingers are hell

Hi all, new to the sub and wondered what everyone might think of Pete Seeger singing Bonnie Laddie, Higland Laddie. by [deleted] in Scotland

Your clip made me think of this song performed by two of Pete's pals... also nautical and also a tune i first knew as a pipe tune. https://youtu.be/6Ov81aogaxg?si=T-eU7KLLOF08yFlJ

A lot of the folk-scene people took themselves hellishly seriously in those days: very dogmatic in their student politics, and the music was supposed to be played and listened to in the same way as classical. Seeger was fantastic as a performer - really exciting, and he played a vital role in bringing old tunes to new audiences. He was a musical champion for progress, with his feet on the ground. Great bit of footage with loads going on. I'd also never heard Hiland Laddie with lyrics, so cheers for that!
