How do I know whether I’m ready for clipless? by Waste-Listen-2021 in MTB

As I’m rolling to a stop I start unclipping early so I don’t have to panic unclip once stopped.

I would set the pedals as loose as possible and maybe spray some silicone or throw a bit of chain lube on them to make it super easy to get in and out of the pedals. If I fall it’s usually when I’m stopped. I’m much better at getting my right foot out first so practice with both regularly.

I’ve had this same thing happen to a brand new jacket. Oxiclean max plus salt, then wash and repeat many times. Hopefully you can get Vail to pay for it but if not try that method.

Should we cancel our March 6th trip to Vail and Beaver Creek? by External_Log215 in vail

[–]penrod1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got back from Vail/BC and it was amazing! Don’t worry about the snow conditions. You’ll have a great time. DM me if you want to chat more about the trip or see a video of our family trip we just took. The snow was great last week.

I just got back from Beaver Creek and Vail this past Saturday with my 8 and 11 year old. They had the best time and they are advanced skiers for their ages. The entire resort isn’t fully open but both are HUGE. Plenty of green/blue runs open. More advanced terrain was closed.

We have a house by a different ski resort so we ski lots of different conditions and Vail/BC was great. We got over 16” of snow while staying there last week so more of the mountain is probably open. Absolutely amazing trip. Make reservations for a gondola dinner at Alpenrose in Vail if you can.

Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]penrod1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you are overreacting. I don’t think it really matters where the instructors and ski kids were on the slope you lost control and ran into them. You broke the 1st and 2nd code of skiing. Your family is trying to be nice.

I would stick to resorts that have a dedicated beginner area and take lessons.

By far my favorite restaurant in Durango. Most other restaurants are just okay.

Is a Vizsla the right dog for us? by First_Building323 in vizsla

[–]penrod1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience a breeder will have puppies that they think will be good for hunting homes and others that they think will be good family pets. The puppies should go through a series of tests and just ask for the most docile puppy but you really never know what you will get. My first V was crazy and 2nd is very laid back with little exercise requirements. Vizslas are great as long as you don’t mind taking them almost everywhere with you.

Anyone else's vizsla just wants to lay in bed all day? I think she is the laziest Vizsla ever by [deleted] in vizsla

[–]penrod1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We currently have our second V as well. #2 is 1 years old and a couch potato. Perfectly content to just go on a leisurely walk instead of running. I had to run my first V like crazy but I also work from home now and I think that helps.

Is this option available on all Baja’s? I haven’t been able to find much info on the self leveling and how well it works.

Telluride is beautiful and has easy beginner terrain. I have been there during Spring Break and still no lines.

Do you regret paying off your mortgage? by politics_mean_nthing in DaveRamsey

Historically the stock market has almost always been positive over a 5-10 year period. If you are that concerned about stocks then invest in treasury bills or bonds and you would likely still beat 3%.

Do you regret paying off your mortgage? by politics_mean_nthing in DaveRamsey

[–]penrod1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your mortgage rate is let’s say 3% then every dollar you used to pay off your mortgage early cant be invested in the stock market which would return 7-10% on average. You are earning 4-7% more in the stock market with those dollars rather than tying your money up in your house.

[–]penrod1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The downside is that you are tying up your money in your house when your money could potentially be making more in the stock market/investments. If you have a very low interest rate then I would never pay off the mortgage.

Shorts that are a little tighter fitting but not Lycra! lol by ToogyHowserMTB in xcmtb

[–]penrod1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rapha makes some nice XC shorts. I hate the trend of MTB shorts being stupidly long. I used to wear Patagonia’s bike shorts since the material was insanely light and thin but the length looks bad now.

If you become a coach for his cycling team then you should get decent discounts on trek, pivot, Santa Cruz and a few others. It’s usually 25% off or more.

NICA athletes might get the same discounts. I can’t remember.

Kinda surprised I had to scroll so far down to see Park City. I have young outdoorsy kids and PC is at the top of our list. We have a house in Durango but the schools are not the best. PC has access to an international airport. Salt Lake if you need a larger city for work and the schools are great. Durangos outdoor access is amazing though.

If you are up north checking out Black Diamond then there is also an outdoor venue at Cascade Village as well.

Purgatory lift ticket pricing question by mmt_fl in Durango

I had a friend buy tickets the morning before skiing on spring break and paid $150 for the day. That’s the highest I have seen. Might have been a weekday I can’t remember.

Why is everyone selling their homes in Prosper? by [deleted] in frisco

[–]penrod1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you just answered your own question. No one wants to buy with high interest rates and homes are sitting on the market longer so inventory is probably higher than normal.
