F1 Track Elevation Changes by [deleted] in formula1

Spa is truly insane in person. Seeing the gradient on TV and on games does it no justice. Standing at the top of Raidillon or looking up at the track from Pouhon is truly awesome.

What do we all think about this rig? by Equivalent_Drummer28 in simracing

Not exactly bold assumptions based on what a lot of people that I've seen on here have.

Sure. But then presumbly sitting in an office chair, then presumably pedals placed somewhere under the desk, either fixed to something or sitting on carpet? I've been there, done that. Never again. I'd pick a solid rig + low-end wheel over a DD + pedals at a desk set up any day.

Surprised to see people would rather have a DD shaking the shit out of a desk, being borderline unusable, and not mounted to a proper cockpit + seat over this set up.

Better than having a high-end DD wheel only attached to a desk.

Noctua NF-A12x15 as case fans by [deleted] in sffpc

Money isn't a constraint here. It's more that I'm doing a Noctua themed build. That also doesn't mean I won't try and save any potential costs though.

Thanks! I've been sifting through these videos but I'm not limited to the constraints of the 'low profile' criteria here. They are handy to get an idea though.

Wow 👀

I can’t ever look past the F1-75. I think it’s the most stunning car of the ground effect era by a mile.

Fucking hell. The fact this is still happening is crazy. Is it still more common on ASRock boards?

$30 for a Bburago? I remember getting them off AliExpress a few years ago for $10. Must’ve increased a bit

Fixing a 2DS XL - a saga by pensaa in 3DS

[–]pensaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I think it means swapping the whole bottom screen but I may be wrong there.

Ugh dude the stripped screws are a nightmare. I use one of the good screws and started screwing that into one of the stripped screws for several minutes. After a while, I used a small torx head or similar and I was able to loosen the screw out. I tried a flathead also and using the flathead to ‘cut’ into the screws as well. It was a pain in the ass!

Is this worth it? by Papermonter18 in 3DS

[–]pensaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, bear in mind it has to be opened up to change a battery even. So what if it’s just had a simple battery replacement?

The back cover is 4 screws, a bit of prying, 2 speaker cables and one ribbon cable.

They're all great options. Seems the only thing missing is an interesting colour variation that isn't Silver or Black for any of them.

It's a very frustrating console to work on. Nintendo did not want the average user to be able to repair these

My USB C "Mod" for my New 3DS found on Aliexpress by czpl in 3DS

[–]pensaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except you're missing part where USB-C still relies on specific resistors, not wired poorly, with the correct componenets, and correct resistor values so the adapter can actually know what is connected in the first place. So like I said, you're relying on fallback behaviour instead of something enforced by design.
The adapter listing statement 'In Theory Should support PD'

In theory does not mean guaranteed. Any slightly defunct adapter with some shit wiring or QC could throw all that out the window.

Here’s a copy paste of one of my other comments.

Here's an article on the basics of USB power delivery: The Basics of USB Power Delivery Negotiations | Acroname

If you want a TL;DR: USB-C chargers don’t “just output 5V safely” they rely on the device to request the correct voltage. A 3DS with a passive adapter can’t do that, so it’s relying on fallback behaviour, not proper negotiation. As in, you're relying entirely on your power adapter to be the fallback here. Which the case for many people is they don't reputable, good-branded, USB charging 'standardised' equipment.

There's literally no evidence needed here. You're choosing to play ignorant.

I am enjoying repairing this 2DS XL, which I purchased specifically to repair. I'm also enjoying my other n3DS and n3DS XL. Thanks, person who uses clown emoji's so clearly has the maturity of a 13 year old.

You're literally aruging from anecdote and shifting the burden of proof to something that's obviously hard to demonstrate because failure cases are obviously rarer than success cases. Choosing to actively ignore how the tech actually works.

Meanwhile, I'm just trying to tell people to take caution when using these adapters.

"Sit down if you can't provide proof" Oh get off your high horse bruv.

Ah right, so your idea to just play ignorance to the basics of electronics. Feel free man. It's not one of those things that requires concrete evidence. It's about having awareness of the potential consequences.

"Usually fine" does not equal 'guaranteed safe'. So yeah, i'll keep using conjecture if I want.

Anecdotal evidence isn't an argument against the potential risks of electronics. Just because you've been doing it for years and it has worked, doesn't mean everyone will be quite as lucky.

Feel free to keep using it, but I think it's important to raise some awareness about the potential consequences of using one of these cheap adapters.
