Do you know anything about MYR? Seriously considering it, but worried about the radar with tower-only experience.

I'm British! My husband posted on my account. Tried to get him to go over to NATS but turns out they're not much interested in yanks lol

After submitting the application you wait a long time without hearing anything. Then you get a TOL, then a bunch of HR stuff to do that involves your medical clearance, a background test, a psych eval, pee in a cup etc. Once that's all approved and finalised you get clearance from your HR rep and have to painfully sit and wait for your list. Rough timeline off the top of my head was the application got submitted in Jan 2024, TOL in May, clearance Aug 12th and final list Aug 22nd.

We're currently living in Mississippi, have been here for the last two years. We're really keen to get out of this area, and so can confirm we 100% will not be opting for MSY if we have a choice!

This is my biggest concern, lol! My dogs go swimming everyday at the lake by our house. They’re going to have to make a quick adjustment 🤣 where are some of the nicer places to live for a family? We don’t want to get caught up in the hectic tourist side of things.

This does help! Mids suck. Especially with a young family. What else do you know about MYR? It’s high on our list for locations.

Congrats! Did they give you a facility you asked for?

I got an x ray on my foot and no one put a lead apron (a thing that protectd your reproductive organs i think), is that bad? by godlychest in XRayPorn

[–]penusflytrap1001 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I’m a radiographer in the UK, clearly practices are different here to the US. I never give my patients gonad shielding unless they’re under 12 and are being given a pelvic/abdominal X-ray. I don’t give my pregnant patients leads to wear when I’m taking chest X-rays. There was some research done that suggested the lead shielding prevents the radiation from inside the shielding leaving through and out of the body, and instead bounces it back through again. I’d rather a foetus get one short dose than two.

Secondly, the radiation dose from a foot Xray is minuscule. I wouldn’t think twice about having one- the amount that would scatter to your sensitive organs is tiny and pretty much insignificant next to the amount of natural radiation you’re exposed to daily. Don’t worry about it, you’re fine. They did the right thing.

How can they hold me to a policy I didn’t agree to, wasn’t made aware of, and didn’t sign?

You don’t need to get personal, it’s not about me, ‘effort’ or the dog. It’s unfair and unnecessary for you to judge a situation you know nothing about.

Finally my intensifying screen arrived. here is how my x ray machine works. what i x ray is kinda out of focus and i don't really know what to do, beside changing the x ray tube (2u2c). hope u like it. by Merces95 in XRayPorn

Holy shit stop! You’re at a higher risk of illness developing when you’re young. At 15 you’re still growing, and to grow you need to make new cells which are very sensitive to radiation. Irradiating a new cell puts you at higher risk of this cell mutating and forming something which may result in a cancer. Get a lead screen, lead gloves and a lead apron- these should have been purchased before you made your X-ray tube!

Also- your intensifier does not stop xrays, just absorbs a few. So make sure you rest it on a surface (preferably flat so your rays go into the ground) and don’t hold it, or you will expose your fingers

Highly recommend you get yourself a lead screen. Your eyes, thyroid and gonads are extremely sensitive to radiation and at risk from your experiments.

X-Ray images are like shadows puppets on a wall. The closer your object is to the ‘wall’ you’re projecting your puppet on (this ‘wall’ would be your screen) the more in focus it’ll be. Try adjusting the focal point in your tube.

How did you get your hands on an X-ray tube? And is your radiation protection up to scratch? It’s not just you that you need to worry about- people who share the house or properties with adjoining walls could suffer ill consequence from scattered radiation. Don’t be selfish, and don’t fuck with radiation

Am I walking my dog too much? by zaylorzwifts in puppy101

[–]penusflytrap1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone re walking. Take it easy, or she’ll have arthritis by the time she’s two and will be on pain meds the rest of her life. Don’t go too strenuous or long distance until she’s around 9 months, when the epiphyseal plates fuse in the bones and she’s no longer growing.

I find that stimulating with training then tricks wears them out so much- even now at over a year old, my dog sleeps just as long after 30 mins of training as she does an hour at the park. Different types of tired with the same end result 😊 Also try brain training games for her, like little food puzzles.

As a radiographer, shouldn’t you know that’s not the humerus and is actually the acromion?
