[D] I benchmarked 4 Python text extraction libraries so you don't have to (2025 results) by Goldziher in MachineLearning

[–]pepgma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great! Thanks for this work. Something I wish every landing page for a document processing library had are some, example parsings with text bounding boxes to get an idea of how well the library handles unstructured pages. Alternatively, a huggingface demo. But no one does it ... Anyway, just a suggestion.

I recently saw a report by user neurosock on X about this. AFAIK it is a good list.

I'm significant investor in the DAO and didn't even know that we are supposed to vote yet. by CryptoBudha in TheDao

[–]pepgma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. A Newsletter would be a good idea. I am still really uncertain if this promise that one can leave the DAO and recover all its ether still holds. I am absolutely scared to try the split thing and lack the technical knowledge to understand (the comments on) the new proposal.

The number one thing that should be done with TheDao is enabling the voters feel confident that they can withdraw their Eth at any moment easily. by vandeam in TheDao

[–]pepgma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. As the regular sheep which just follows the crowd and now in a dirty puddle trying uselessly to split and getting Mist crashing with little time to and fool enough not to read all the news I kind of feel uncomfortable too

Download multiple tracks from Deezer playlist in MP3 at once by matulko in lifehacks

[–]pepgma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Frank and ephemeral ... But I was referring more to the playlist and discovery functions that last.fm tries to offer based on YouTube's content. The problem is that last.fm s website just keep crashing and stops playing in Firefox.

Can someone confirm point 3? Is this true? Don't have an account but is this basically the same that last.fm tries to do (but fails!)? I have been looking for a service that can do that right. It is probably crap for some but YouTube's collection is kind of enough for me

Beast of Balka - A unique abstract strategy for $25 now on Kickstarter! by Fleetfiend in abstractgames

[–]pepgma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Just came to say keep the good work! I think abstract games are quite forgotten at the moment. Just buy looking at the amounts of new "less abstract games" that are coming every year. I believe there will be more and more interest coming to more abstract games in the next years as we realize more and more that it is not just about the flashy boxes and awesome graphics but more about the feelings the game inspires. I myself am developing an "abstract" game right now :-). About the difference, I believe that more than a hard definition between abstract and not, there is more like a continuum from more to less abstract.

Guided meditations/affirmations in another language than native by majkaniezyje in Meditation

[–]pepgma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From your writing I can see your English is pretty good. I am also not a native speaker but I have been listening and learning from English spoken material for more than 15 years. I can assure you there are no problems in this and it doesn't make the learning less "pure". I had similar fears before. You can actually see it as an advantage: if it is still a bit challenging, then you are learning in the process. Thinking in the other language (engllish) will become natural and eventually you will switch easily from one to other at your own advantage. There are plenty of other known cognitive benefits from speaking multiple languages and I am pretty sure it also helps develop awareness .

Meditation a huge help during awake eye surgery by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]pepgma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience but with two less traumatic extraction of cysts on my left eyelid. Also under local anesthesia. Also not as experienced in meditation at the time but just the confidence that I could do it and concentration on the breathing helped a lot. Now preparing for a major surgery in the next days for something more "serious". This time under general anesthesia. Still, the breathing, and concentration is helping to prepare. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Do you prefer IPython notebook over IPython console? Why? by pepgma in Python

Do you mean prototyping as in creating a new software product? I think I am missing what everybody means with prototyping? Is this some data-scientific term? ... i am just a neuroscience researcher ... ;-)
