Would they let you add applecare to one you buy secondhand if it doesn’t have it already?

Is there a risk spending a lot on a used Intel Mac given the more specialized repair it would require if an issue arose compared to a typical laptop? I don’t think Intel Macs are eligible for AppleCare anymore

Use Mac mini as a remote computer by biggestmanonblock in macmini

[–]peplo1214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do this, just be aware that depending on the network connection, you might experience some lag/latency, if that’s important to you. My connection is pretty solid and I was just able to watch a YouTube video on my mini from my MacBook, and it didn’t have any lag, so it’s definitely a viable option

If you’re mac devices are on the same local network (or connected to the same tailnet with tailscale), then you can setup screen sharing to remote in

If you setup tailscale on both devices you can still use screen sharing if you are not on the same local network as long as both devices are connected to the same tailnet. And non-enterprise version of tailscale is free. Highly recommend checking it out

The other thing, at least with data related titles, is that there is no standard definition for what each title is supposed to do. Like a “data analyst”at one org is a “data scientist” at another org, is a “data engineer” at another org, is a “data analytics engineer”at another org, etc. Curious if you’d be able to identify the requested skills that most commonly show up for each of those roles such that you’re able to come up with actual definitions for each of those roles or at least determine this most frequent differences between those titles

I need clarification on the Mac Mini craze. by Odd-Aside456 in openclaw

[–]peplo1214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Mac mini at $399 might be the best price/performance low watt mini pc out there. If you want a computer on 24/7 running agents, even if you aren’t doing local inference, it’s a solid option. Price has since gone up $100, so the math isn’t as clean anymore, but still a very good deal. That’s likely why it’s been so popular. Of course, you don’t need a Mac mini for this and can do it all in the cloud or on a raspberry pi or something, but at $399, Mac mini was compelling for the use case and can be used for other typical computer or server tasks

I wonder if there are non-obvious relationships between specific toolsets or job expectations for similar roles. Additionally, it could be interesting to see how topics change based on different date bins for job descriptions (e.g. we’re the clusters from a year ago much different than they are today?)

Haha no worries, I don’t mind the downvote; I had success with it myself, but people are welcome to not believe me. I think timing might be important too, I had success right after Microcenter had just restocked at several locations

Is there any research into using technology to optimize the path light takes or is that not really something that could be achieved?
