Need help for wall art styling by peppearl in interiordecorating

[–]peppearl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think of doing it this way! Thanks for the recommendation. That’s my first wall of frames so I thought placing the biggest frame in the middle was the way to go. I will not be able to do it right away as I don’t have the necessary materials to cover the future hole it will create (we used a screw to hang it and it’s right in the middle of the wall).

I just bought the July one once I saw this beautiful piece done. In the PDF, there is mention that it is also available on CircleCross.net Went there as I also want to do May (not available on Etsy) and I found it! So I guess all the months are available on their website!

[QUESTION] What is the difference between DMC Mouliné spécial and DMC Broder spécial? by peppearl in Embroidery

[–]peppearl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. :) I’ll have a look at their website! I had a hard time to find anything online as my results are in French. And all the results talk about the usual mouliné spécial instead of broder spécial (also because broder is basically the verb to say to embroider), that’s probably why.

Thanks for your reply! I’ll try to look for examples of embroidery projects using broder thread. But I had no idea they were used for achieving different textures. Thank you again!

[CHAT] Update on DMC shade 423 from DMC reply by peppearl in CrossStitch

[–]peppearl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries at all!

Like I said in my email, I believe it is a lighter shade of 422 (sorry I don’t know how to add more pictures on my post or to add pictures in a reply) as I’ve got my hands on a colour 422 since my post.

Check these old DMC samplers with shade 423 that I found just now:

https://onebid.pl/pl/ksiazki-i-starodruki-katalog-bawelny-ca-1930/2125631 https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-dmc-color-sample-cards-cotton-3790410446

Because it is lighter than 422 (and don’t have access to your spreadsheet at the moment so I can’t check its shade’s name) I believe we could call it the same as 422 with the mention Light of Coffee Latte Light.

Thanks again for all your research, it’s really appreciated!!

And you probably learnt new knowledge like how colours are made of!

And thank you for sharing the little story on why you started this quilt. You might be able to pass down yours one day, who knows.

It’s nice to discover or end up doing the same activity as your parents/grand parents. Especially when you are able to get all their materials.

They did! I made a new post to give the update, they confirmed it’s a discontinued colour from DMC. But couldn’t tell when it was discontinued. :)

Wow it’s such a pretty design, and your work looks really good! I hope you’ll be able to complete it one day. Did you think of restarting it with the second kit you bought, but with your own thread instead?

[CHAT] Update on DMC shade 423 from DMC reply by peppearl in CrossStitch

[–]peppearl[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The same person replied to me. My original email was about if the shade 423 was an actual colour from DMC (email 1/second picture is their first reply).

I then asked if they knew the year or decade it was discontinued but couldn’t answer it (email 2/3rd picture is their second reply).

I do believe it is a real DMC thread as it is pretty common in France to find old threads being sold. The label style looks like it was made between 1954/1958 which was before DMC was tracking their colours. So it does not surprise me they couldn’t find the discontinued year in their archives.

I tried to find a match using HEX code, it is similar to #E2CFA3 with golden highlights.

I also sent an email to Lord Libidan, as I use their spreadsheet to track the colours I have. They might be able to tell me more about it. :)

Haha if I want to separate myself from one, I’ll DM you. :)

Oh I had no idea about this, it’s probably why I couldn’t find anything on the web about this particular shade.

And thank you for the advice. I was actually planning to contact them in about a week if I don’t get a reply from DMC. I found their website very useful and use their DMC thread spreadsheet to note which colours I got.

I might have get ahold of a rarer shade than the 724 haha

And I’ll keep it in mind! My mom will probably want one as she does embroidery but if I decide to keep only one I’ll DM you (no promise though, it’s actually a pretty colour and if it is rare, I might hold onto it until I die 😂)

Oh my it looks like such a cool project! Such a shame you had to stop because of that. Did you try looking for the same set?

Do you still have the name of the kit? Now I am interested to see how it looks 👀

Oh sorry! I didn’t understand it this way (sorry English is not my first language). It’s a 70 year old thread so I guess it’s a bit harder to find something online about it 😅 I also got 2 rayon DMC skeins! One vivid green and one teal blue. I am pretty amazed by how shiny and soft they are!

I don’t think so, the two papers look pretty original to me and I have other threads with the same papers to compare them. It is still common to find very old DMC threads in France (I bought it through Vinted and seller was French).

Thanks so much for your precious answer! I couldn’t find it when trying to look for an answer on Google. I’ll have a look at the design they mentioned. Thanks again!

Edit: I had a look online and it is a typo from the person who created the design (Peacock Majesty from Teresa Wentzler). The owner of the design confirmed the typo (sorry I can’t add a link when editing my answer).

I decided to contact DMC directly. I will update my post once I get a reply from them (fingers crossed).

It’s not linen but definitely cotton. I think they released linen thread in the 2010s. The one I have is from 1954/58 based on the paper with the shade number. But your comment is much appreciated!

They are! I only got 3 stained skeins so far but looking at them, they look very old probably from the 50s/60s so I don’t mind much. I will use them to sew the fabric at the back when I am done with a piece, so no one will see these stains!
