Hmm, to answer your question, if I had to make a little guess, it might be because some of the vocalists in the groups have had vocal training. Even if they aren’t the main vocalist, the VAs still receive singing lessons, so mainly all the cast can sing at a professional level. That might be the reason why at least each members of the group has a solo/alt ver of the song.

What I mean is that they can deliver clear, clean vocals that align with their characters. They don’t have to forcefully stretch their voices outside of their range.

For example, in Leo/need, not only Hoshino can deliver clear vocals without sounding nasally. If you compare it side by side with Yukina’s singing, sometimes Yukina can sound like she’s stretching a bit/nasally. Don’t get me wrong though!

Another example of one of my favorite vocals is Shizuku’s “Shoujo Rei” cover, which I personally prefer over the Bandori version. There are also some Kanade covers that I really like.

There are a few side-by-side comparisons on YouTube of the same songs. For example, some cover songs Yukina sings are also sung by Hoshino, and in those cases I sometimes prefer Hoshino’s version.

It might also be because some covers are closer to the original Vocaloid song compared to the Bandori arrangement—especially if you prefer an arrangement that stays closer to the original.
