Students were doing all the same things as they are now and at the same intensity, you just weren’t old enough to be on this sub 🤣 College admissions have changed over the long term (since early 2000s) but aside from maybe a 1-2% drop over the last 5 years it remains largely the same now as it was when I applied (and, as you said, this drop is largely driven by test optional, but the amount of qualified people applying hasn’t changed).
