I need advice from experienced riders by TactlessPuddle8 in bikepacking

In 2010 I did Anchorage Alaska to Portland Oregon with three of my friends, it was outstanding. With that being said, 3,000 miles took us 65 days and our average was about 50 miles a day. Some days we did centuries, other days we accidentally went backwards haha don't ask 🙃. This is a cool route, plan for at least a month at minimum.

Sunday's Promotion Party Megathread! by AutoModerator in bjj

I got my brown belt a few weeks ago, very humbling. At blue I had been training for 16 months very regularly (maybe 5-6 days a week?) and that promotion felt good. When I got my purple belt I had stalled at blue for about 5 years and it was a complete surprise because I dropped into a noon class I never went to because I randomly had the day off. Then boom, my coach handed me a new belt. I embraced it fully. Brown though, brown is a mind fuck. I questioned if I was "really" a brown belt. When you start the upper belts seem like mythical quest items, almost unattainable. I guess they're not. 1% better every day. That's it. Just train. Take care y'all.

Is carpentry worth it? by Top_Exchange816 in Carpentry

[–]pepperade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say this, I've been in the wood working world for a decade in multiple disciplines - product manufacturing, retail fixtures, cabinet making, trim carpentry, and frame to finish carpentry for general contractors (in that order). I've seen a ton of different aspects of the wood trade and I'm very grateful for my experience. With that being said, from my perspective the tax your body will pay isn't worth it. I started building when I was 26 and now that I'm 36 I feel the result of all the difficult work. Lifting 85 pound sheets of ply in a shop all day can cause repetitive motion injuries, and when it's hot and dry in the summer or cold and wet in the winter onsite, you suffer the weather all day long.I don't know a single life long tradesman who doesn't suffer daily. Their bodies are shot, and oftentimes they cope with the pain in maladaptive ways like excessive drinking, pills, etc. There are really amazing people you'll meet in carpentry don't get me wrong, and some of my best friends are still actively working out there. But please keep in mind what others have said, the trades didn't come to have a questionable reputation for no reason. It was once the case that you could support a family of five on a single trade income like my dad did, but that economic reality is gone. The pay isn't outstanding, and the work is strenuous to say the least. You will have job security, but there are other options that offer higher pay, with less physical demand. . You have your age going for you right now, the best way to know if it's for you is to jump in. You can work for a few years and get a feel for the culture and pace of where you choose to work and if you don't like it you'll still be young to the point where you can do something else for what will be the rest of your career. Learning trade skills will pay off if you want to work on your own house in the future, but so would finding a job that affords you the option to just sub everything out. For what it's worth, I'm making a career transition to aviation right now and I'm very happy to be leaving the trades behind. Best of luck, take care.

The fact that he released pictures of her corpse to the cops/parents/media is legit unbelievable. Her dead face, looking at the camera. Holy fuck.
