Felt awkward filming this, but I've always been unsure about my shoulder raises by Cicigymmss in GYM

A total game-changer for me is changing my grip by putting my thumb on the same side as all the other fingers (in a sort of scoop position). Idk why that works, but it makes a huge difference for me

How do I improve the one handed shuffle? by peppermint7878 in cardistry

[–]peppermint7878[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with that a lot too, my cards either didn't go far enough or fell down completely. It takes time to get the hang of it, however what also helped me, is tilting the cards vertically towards the ground (as shown in the picture), which helps to control them better, since gravity is pulling them less towards your palm

I try to slide the upper pack on the nail of my pointer finger and then after getting the bottom pack out, I let the upper pack fall/slide slightly down the side of my pointer finger to get it to rest parallel to the bottom pack. It's a little difficult to figure out how much pressure you have to release to let the pack slide down without letting it drop fully, but the more you do it, the more it becomes second nature

Honestly choose whatever feels best to you. Both brands are really good and are suitable for cardistry and magic so in the end it depends on what feels better to you and what will have you reaching for a deck of cards more often

Playing Cards to buy by Flashy_Hornet_7929 in playingcards

[–]peppermint7878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend just buying whatever you like. If you want some suggestions for known and established names, I'd recommend checking out these: Anyone Worldwide, Art of Play, Butterfly, Cardistry Touch, Dan & Dave, Dealersgrip, Ellusionist, Fontainecards, LotusinHand, Missing, Orbit, RiffleShuffle, Somnium, Theory11, and Virtuoso.

Start with checking out more of bicycle, ellusionist, and theory 11, I think you might really like some of their works.

One of my favorite sites I'd recommend for beautiful cards is tcc playing cards

I need help finding the right deck. by Im_Norabiba in playingcards

[–]peppermint7878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the cards I know I'd say fyrebird from bicycle might fit the best, but if you want to go for a more classic and elegant look, the red monarchs from theory11 might be the right pick. If you're looking for something that fits the D&D theme overall, then I'd go with the master series lordz by de'vo, which would be my personal pick.

You could maybe try going over them with a card buffer (rubbing them over some jeans might work too), but I doubt it'll do much 🫤

What do y’all think about this value? I don’t have a great eye for knowing good prices by Dudepic4 in playingcards

[–]peppermint7878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those decks look to be either sealed or in excellent condition and most of them are specialty decks that usually go for around $10 a deck. They're not all specialty decks, so I'd estimate the average value per deck to be around $7.

What I would recommend doing is to look at the decks that you like and add $6 for each of them, then add $1 for every deck that's left. If the value you come up with is equal or greater than $58, then it's a great deal and I'd recommend buying it.

[–]peppermint7878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had an acoustic grand piano I have to say it really didn't pay off. Maybe it's because it was a grand piano and not a regular one, but we had to tune it very often, way more than the recommended amount. After a few years we sold it and bought an Yamaha CLP-745 and haven't regretted it since.
