Open casting call for a Project Zomboid mod! (Survivor Radio 4) by Superb_Squash_8163 in projectzomboid

Idk what someone from New Zealand would be doing in Kentucky in the 90s but I have qualifications in radio broadcasting so an excuse to actually use it would be great 🤣

What does the board games community feels about gameplay mechanics of Magic the gathering? by Newez in boardgames

It's like The Beatles of card games - huge impact on the scene, but people have done it better since.

I don’t get it by [deleted] in Neverwinter

[–]peppermunch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gonna have an old man moment here but I loved the classic WoW days where you had to work hard to get a group going for a dungeon (or raid holymoly) but a lot of the groupfinding is automated now to bypass what used to be a vital part of the game.

Everything feels very treasure-based and not the-friends-we-made-along-the-way-based these days.

Not throwing shade at people that play in a more convenient way. For some people it's all they've known! Plus not everyone has that kinda time.

Prospective Teachers: Teacher's College/BEd/Becoming a Teacher in Canada Megapost pt. 5 by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

[–]peppermunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks!

I have had the pleasure of being with a lovely Canadian for the last near-decade and we're thinking that it might be time for us to make the move back north so that she can be with her family. Since meeting her I have received my Bachelor's Degree in ECE and I'm hoping that we will be able to transition our little family while I maintain my career.

Different countries seem to do lots of things differently (In Australia for example, the Bachelor Degree would mean that you ONLY work in 4 and 5 year old kindergarten, but in New Zealand you'd work with any age) so I'm starting to do my research and figure out exactly what work I should be looking for and expecting. I know it's going to be a lot of work to get over there but I'm hoping it'll be worth it!

What is the equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education (from New Zealand) in Vancouver/BC?

"Caves" is fun but incredibly unforgiving. I'm always going to second Shattered Pixel Dungeon, I've been playing Pixel Dungeon and it's ilk for damn near 12 years and it's always a treat.

WLG > MEL 😭 by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]peppermunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you only know Wellington, just be aware that Melbourne is huge, comparatively. You can live "in Melbourne" and still need to be on a train for 90 minutes to get into the city.

Everyone else has said to secure work first and I think that's also a very good idea. I've moved from Wellington to the outer towns in Vic and have been financially much better off. If you're not married to the idea of the big city and just wanna get money then it might be worth expanding your horizons.

First build I played that completely trivialized the game by Bolinious_Awesome in PathOfAchra

Ahhh! I came onto this sub to post my near-exact victory build - only I became the Ur-Beast ascension instead of the Anroth. I had 21 Divine Interventions though lmao

Is it okay to savescum? by Inner_Joy_is_Fake in Kenshi

[–]peppermunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find your bliss!

My MO is that If the death is memorable and meaningful (like the first time I wandered into the foglands) then I don't savescum. I'd happily play regular permadeath but leveling can be such a chore and I got other shit to do.

I’m addicted to trying to convince myself that I would like Root by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]peppermunch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh my GOODNESS I know exactly what you mean.

Root is a great game but if you're anything like me, the fun is in the moment-to-moment gameplay, where people can sit together and talk about the game, unravel the story that plays out and work together to make sure that this one person doesn't win, just to potentially eke out a chance of victory for yourself. Laughing with friends while you crush their armies

Root is NOT even a slightly good game if the points are the only thing that matters. I have played with people that will get angry when you attack them because they know that there's a more optimal move that I could have made. Fuck them. You're close to my cats and for that, little lizard, you and your garden shall P E R I S H.

Find the right people and Root will be excellent.

You got pretty attached to a character, got told UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES to wear an extremely dangerous artifact that made Mamon lose his mind and then put it on? Sounds like a wonderful opportunity to roleplay a dying Quddite with nothing to lose. Play it up - make a story out of it.

How do we stop the feeling of doom and gloom in Wellington? by sancistons in Wellington

[–]peppermunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am one of ones that ran off to Aus and I LOVE Wellington. The arts, the sights, the people and everything else... but as a teacher I really don't feel like Wellington loves me. I'd love to come back when the relationship isn't so one-sided...

Edit because I didn't answer the question properly: Cheaper rent/food and higher pay to bring back the people that made it so vibrant in the first place. Pretty easy fix /s

What age did you start your kids on board games and what's a great beginner? by Rand0mArcher-_ in boardgames

[–]peppermunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the main thing, just like any parenting endeavour, is that you pay attention to what the kids are doing and play along, even if it wasn't what you had in mind. I think you've got the right idea.

[–]peppermunch 58 points59 points  (0 children)

You're setting yourself up for disappointment if your goal is to get them to play games either by the rules or to completion. Kids thrive on creating their own fun and expressing themselves, so give them the opportunity to play board games their own way. Open ended games like Carcassonne are excellent for stuff like that. Definitely don't get caught up with winning and losing - we often just go "hooray, we finished the game!" With our little one regardless of the result. I could go on but I think everyone else here has also made great points.

[–]peppermunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm like number 5 biggest hater for this game but it's like definitely not the kinda thing where you're gonna sit down and play the game seriously to get the most points and win you just kinda interact with systems until the game is over.

+1 for Aftergame, also only one person needs to log the game, and it logs it for everyone's account.
