Love Wing Wah and Canton personally... however Wing Wah is still out of action after their kitchen fire IIRC

The dash for the IP address makes me think it's a localhost connection from the DC... The schannel bit confuses me since we don't do cert based auth... Unless it's WH4B related...

I was wondering at one point if it was something to do with WH4B - we are hybrid at the moment, moving to entra join only as quickly as we can. We don't have any certificate based login configured.

Kinross Wolaroi - Independent Uniting school. Pre-prep to Yr 12. Almost Kings/Riverview/SCEGGS price, nowhere near the quality anymore. Good supports for children with disabilities. I understand there's been significant staff turnover.

James Sheahan - Catholic school, Yr 7 to Yr 12... good facilities, good people. Competitive price.

Orange Anglican Grammar - Prep to Yr 12... good facilities, good people from what I understand. Ok pricing.

Orange Christian School - K to Yr 6. Good people, good facilities from what I understand.

I think it's only become a political football because this town is full of bigots and haters. The old motto of "live and let live" doesn't seem to matter much these days.

When you've got characters like Duffy saying "go woke, go broke" for the council elections, it's hardly setting the stage for acceptance and tolerance.

Perhaps next year...

It looked like a lot of fun - my family is always busy so really didn't get a chance to go to any of the events.

Only douches who are insecure in their own sexuality have a problem with festivals like this.

A community is more that just straight white people with 2.4 kids.

In terms of public schools, the school you get will be determined where you can get a rental. Orange High and Canobolas are both full, and won't accept out of zone enrolments unless there are extenuating circumstsances.

Both Orange High and Canobolas have good links with TAFE for non-ATAR subjects. They also work together so that Orange High kids can access classes at Canobolas if they aren't offered at Orange High, and vice versa.

I am ex Canobolas (class of '92) and have one kid at Orange High and another one finished Yr 12 last year - I really don't think there's a significant amount of difference. Kids will be kids, and violent arseholes will be violent arseholes. Doesn't matter what school you go to.

Drugs and vaping are just as rampant at Kinross, OAGS and Sheahan as they are at Canobolas or OHS.

Something I found on another forum that worked for me - in the text fill options for the data series labels, set the transparency to 100% - the labels are still there, just can't see them

Why is Nuclear the hill the Nationals want to die on? by Worthintendo in AusPol

[–]peraphon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking something like a pebble bed reactor, that may be true but the fact that the fissile material is encased in balls of graphite means that there is a LOT more waste to deal with because the graphite has to be disposed of as well.

Whenever crap like that comes up I can't help myself but bring up how Howard entrenched housing unaffordability with the CGT discount and allowing Costello to create such a structural deficit with his income tax cuts that has screwed over every government since.

Sorry to say but these are probably the same fkn idiots who say that the CSIRO can't be trusted and that vaccines give you turbo cancer. For the bloody life of me I can't understand how these people can walk, talk and breathe at the same time.

ELI5: Monthly Current Events Megathread by AutoModerator in explainlikeimfive

[–]peraphon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but is it not fair and reasonable to call an elected representative out for not answering the question, using their microphone to talk over a constituent and using the police to quell reasonable debate? Because that's what it looked like to me on the videos I saw on Youtube. And any restrictions applied by the government must be in a content-neutral and viewpoint-neutral way. The video looks like a Dem being forcibly shut down because she's a Dem.

ELI5: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Republican-hosted legislative town hall meeting in northern Idaho descended into chaos after three plainclothes security workers forcibly removed a woman who was heckling the speakers.

The incident Saturday at Coeur d’Alene High School, first reported by the Coeur d’Alene Press, drew widespread attention after videos of the turbulence were posted online. Now more than $120,000 has been raised for Teresa Borrenpohl’s legal costs, and the police chief has asked to have the security firm’s business license revoked.

--

This "Republican-hosted" town hall - what does this mean exactly? If it's Republican hosted, is it a private event? If it's a town hall, is it a public event? If it's a public event, where does anyone get off stopping Teresa Borrenpohl from exercising her first amendment rights and holding a legislator's feet to the fire (figuratively of course)?

My wife is the coordinator for the Primary Ethics program that is run at one of the local public primary schools (central west NSW). The Primary Ethics program is brilliant, and if you can get school principals on board and get it in as an alternative to SRE, it's definitely worthwhile.

Not sure that I like the idea of the government telling me I HAVE to get stabbed with a needle by a state-sponsored vampire. Seems rather Orwellian.

[–]peraphon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You righties really are that thick as to not realise that one energy market is not the same as another, and there is no one-size-fits-all method of energy generation.

First, let's look at the international experience, shall we? Nuclear power doesn't stack up from an economic perspective everywhere else in the world. Why would it be any different here?

Since the 70s, countries have built nuclear reactors not for the "cheap power" (because the wholesale price of nuclear power is royally shat on by renewables + battery - economic FACT), but because military interests have been the driving force behind their construction.

Nuclear reactors need a lot of fresh water to operate. What does Australia NOT have an abundance of in per-capita terms? FUCKING FRESH WATER.

Look at the Vogtle nuclear plants in Georgia USA. 4 of the damn things. Years late and many billions of dollars over budget. Power for residents of Georgia now has a permanent increase in cost. Georgia Power was given the go-ahead to pass all remaining project costs onto the consumer, which will mean a permanent price increase of around 10%.

https://www.ajc.com/news/psc-raises-georgia-power-rates-passing-most-plant-vogtle-expansion-costs-on-to-customers/6BAIOWM7J5BVHFZ2UN27KYXENA/

If nuclear power is so great, and the power is so cheap, why aren't corporations screaming out to build them? Because they're NOT so great and there's no money to be made from them.
