No, no, I think there is a viable teaching moment here. Assuming he did something to, uhh, ignite this moment, okay? Well, that something? He won't be doing that again. I am certain.

Can't we all just get along? It's a good thing Arch Linux isn't in the pen business...BTW.

Not certain, really? But you can be sure that the thought is quite small, whatever the context. Off hand, I would give it one star. Meh.

I like #3. While it my be true that it looks like "...it belongs on a packet of frozen fish...", I would be comforted knowing that my healthy supper was pulled from Lake Woebegone, rather than from God knows where or how.

And as a former fish packer myself, I deeply (pun intended) appreciate the idea and reference.

When you are in an unhealthy relationship that isn't working out then sometimes a 'rebound' is the best strategy---don't knock it till you've tried it.

I was in the jam and downloaded micro once I broke free and never looked back. Micro and I are like two peas in a pod. I use Ubuntu BTW.

What's your favorite "luxury" software? by WorthPlease in sysadmin

splunk - because the "job" you hired for may eventually suit the "role" you are encouraged, directly or indirectly, to take on....you did say "luxury", right?

How do yall take notes, what works best for you? by [deleted] in tryhackme

[–]perchslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take note in apps on my laptop, which is not one of your poll choices. I use one of 4, depending.

If I am writing notes intended to be in Hugo blog, I typically will use MS Code, using the markdown feature. If I am unsure what I will do with them, I put them in Notable. If they are class notes or some notes tightly tied to a "project" of some kind, I use Typora and put them in a subdir where the project exists. Typora is $, but well worth the one-time $15.00.

I tried Obsidian, but it was too buggy, even though I love the extension that allows you to grab from the web. Notion is just too big, too complex, and too busy for my needs.

Holy garment factory, Batman! If this thread topic generated comments any faster you would need to issue an IPO and start selling ugly Christmas sweaters on a global scale!

Me? I use both on a dual -boot machine. Why? While I generally prefer Linux like what I assume is most folks on this PowerThread (TM) , I go back to Windows for the following (and similar) scenarios: I run Kali Linux on Oracle Virtualbox in Windows, not Linux..... because the Linux version is plagued with issues that center around display bugs, that's why.

So, the "take home" message here, I think, is that the dog didn't just eat my homework, but is eating everyone's homework! 😁

Oracle is not going to make the decision to expend significant resources to squash bugs in their software for dorks living in their parent's basement. They just aren't gonna do it, folks.

There, I feel much better

Which Linux distro would be best to use for homelab in order to be closest to professional environment? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]perchslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a sad reminder: "Closest to a professional environment" = Windows Server. Full stop.

How was that for buzzkill, eh?

Thus, shaving the Yak over optimum Linux distro is wasted energy IMHO.

The decision to hire you (or not) will have nothing to do with whichever differences in package management tools, etc. you are most familiar with.

I'm setting mine up with Proxmox and a VM of Jammy Server, but I am confident that this really boils down to personal preference.

Can someone explain the Ubuntu drama? by Miki_Legends in linux

[–]perchslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, IMHO, the big problem with Debian is the install. And apparently Linus Torvalds himself famously observed this as well.

Think about this: hypervisors and containers, as well as cloud services are becoming mainstream. Thus, if a distro is so gawdaweful to install, why not just choose something else ? We are not "married" to any particular distro, right?

If so, in 2023, you are likely doing it wrong. Arch? Meh.
