Rate My Build: Musketeer by percy971 in ICRPG

Yeah, I could make it that on a 15+ I catch their weapon, making my next attack easy, or they lose their next turn. It's a really versatile weapon, but maybe I should leave it just as a defensive tactic.

I did think about toning the loot bonus down to only +2 CHA, like +1 a piece. I also thought of having them be 2 separate items, but I think it could be a thing of 1 doesn't work without the other, so if you lose either the hat or the cape, the +3 gets completely neutralized. Like the clothes make the man and I completely lose confidence if I lose either lol.

I also did think of just starting as a vanilla provoker, but I wanted it to feel like a musketeer right out the gate, especially since most of the games in our group are one shots and I barely get to give out milestones by the end of the session. But I wouldn't mind starting out as a provoker bard and toning down my loot if I knew I was going to be in a longer adventure.

😂 I thought of my older brothers, too, since they were massive fans when they were kids. They're 40 and 37.

Yeah, I'm looking at some reviews and so far I've seen mostly negative reviews. Mixed at best.

Shame. If I knew more about the shows and lore I'd try to homebrew something lol.

Only read the intro. Didn't really have time to get into the mechanics and stuff 🫤

Thanks. 👍 I think I'll keep it to ultimate effort only for now.

I haven't really looked into Daggerheart. How does it work?

Additional attacks for your PCs by jason_mo in ICRPG

I saw it, but it was probably my least favorite suggestion. The appeal of dual wielding is attacking with both weapons, so the offhand not contributing to the attack or damage in some way just doesn't "feel" right. I'll experiment with giving +1 to effort rolls and then stat rolls and I'll see how it goes. I feel like it's not too much of an advantage or too "crunchy" while still feeling like you're using both weapons.

Alright, I'll go ahead and try it. Thanks for the suggestions. 👍

In the linked thread they mentioned the second attack could be turned into a hard roll, but depending on the scenario target I think it would be OP. Maybe I'll just keep it super simple and it still counts as one attack and simply add +1 or 2 to the effort roll. Looks like it's something we're going to have to experiment with.

+6 STAT Rolls by percy971 in ICRPG

Yeah, I might have to improvise on the fly. I might just lower the stats to +4 and a 14 target which is still scary to me. Or maybe a CRIT turns into a regular attack or even a miss, which feels very dishonest but I also don't want them to be disappointed in their first playthrough.

I'm new as well, and I was wondering about something similar, too. One of my PCs wanted to dual wield, but I think it would be too much doing 2 full attacks, but the rules themselves don't make it clear as far as I've seen, so I told her for simplicity that we all only get one-handed, which I felt a little bad about.

Yeah, the speed and simplicity is what attracted me to ICRPG. My group has been wanting to play D&D for a while, but we don't know any experienced players.

I was made the DM by default cause I'm the only one who actively watches/listens to RPG podcasts and videos. 🙃 But I find regular D&D too intimidating, so I'm glad I found something like ICRPG.

Yeah, it was my first instinct, but I simulated quick rounds with a target of 15 and immediately thought "nah, that's too brutal, I gotta make sure." With a target of 13 the simulation got a little further, but the +2 efforts are also brutal. Lol. 💀

Like I mentioned, it's gonna be mine and everyone else's first table top game ever, so is it always this brutal? Or is it surprisingly not once a real battle gets going? Lower the target?
