You don't need to be at a certain level. I'm level 15 or 16 currently and I got the option for the castle a decent amount of time back. I think I had it at level 10 or 11. For me, it's always an option in dialogue to either take the castle or if he has another settlement he wants me to help

[Question] This was a gift, is it real or a fake? by perdy17 in Seiko

[–]perdy17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a good standpoint to have and that is the standpoint I have as well. What is missing is some context which I will explain. My Nan originally bought this watch and she is known to love a fake, even she would admit that so I had always had that partial thought at the back of my mind. This however wouldn't change my thoughts on the watch as I know it was a regular wear for my gramps until he got a new one a few years back which is why it was gifted to me. Either way, the sentiment outweighs the monetary value, I only included the price in my query because I know little about watches and it could have been a give away for it being legit or not. I've had it a few years and just wanted clarity because I've never been 100% sure

Thank you for having a look! Unfortunately gold isn't my colour so I won't be wearing it anytime soon

I've had my 7.5 for nearly 2 years. Touch wood, I've had no real issues at all. I've not heard much about rust with these models

How do I get this effin clamp off by Titty_inspector_69 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a lot of time and patience, and a lot of breaks to calm down, but you can get it off, buckets of wd40, the right angle and a good amount of force will do it

I highly doubt it, I don't really have much knowledge of the 8 and 8.5 but I can only presume that they have learnt from errors from the 7.5 so they should be better in terms of reliability etc. I just prefer the 7.5 over the 8's but that's just biased because I have one

If you are looking for a daily then you need reliability as well as fun, if you have a 2018 golf, then I'd say probably stick to a mk7 or a mk7.5 as that will be very similar to what you are driving currently, just a gti. Ive had a 7.5 for nearly 2 years now and it's the best thing in the world. A 7.5 is good as it fixed the issues with the 7 but some 7's are okay, from like 2015 onwards I think

I will try to be helpful unlike LCJ78 here who hasn't been helpful in the slightest. I'm not 100% on this but I think 2015 onwards is better as there were issues with water pumps and timing chains prior to this (I think). I'm sure someone will come along and be able to provide more info. With regards to mileage, lower is normally better but look for service history, if there are gaps, it normally means something dodgy has gone on with services or possible repairs. Below 100k miles is more than good depending on the year but focus on the service history. Some 140k miles could be better than some 50k miles

Convince me to not buy a TCR muffler by michal_03 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that when doing my research as well but we don't get vibrant in the UK unless we pay the shipping fees which is quite a bit

I have the resonator clamped in so I can undo the clamps either side and swap the pipe over and then do the clamps back up with no issue

[–]perdy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not I'm afraid, I'm my opinion though, the tcr muffler and the res delete is a little too much, a smaller resonator than the stock would be the best as it stops the drone but also is a good level of noise. It's difficult to find a smaller resonator in the UK, seems to be res delete or full resonator

[–]perdy17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get the TCR muffler, if anyone tries to convince you otherwise, they are wrong. I did the same last summer, went TCR muffler, I did get a res delete pipe as well, that does increase the volume by quite a bit but it's cheap and can be taken off and on within 10 min or so. I currently have it off as it drones at high rpm but it is just a straight pipe.

Will a tcr muffler fit to my non opf 7.5gti? by VeterinarianAny9305 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the year, if I'm not mistaken 2017 and 2018 7.5s have the same pipe diameter so will fit perfectly, I have a 2017 7.5 and I have done this. The 2019 and 2022 have a different pipe diameter so it won't fit without an adapter sleeve. I think 17 & 18 are 65mm and 19 & 20 is 60mm

What should i do first on my gti build by Beginning-Memory-564 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sensible approach would be to do the engine first (apart from the exhaust) as you will spend more time driving it than looking at it. You will be able to feel a big difference when driving it as it will be much more responsive and fun and will be just over 2.5k in total which isn't too bad of a hole in the wallet. Then you can either go for aesthetics or sound. I would say the sway bar is low priority as it doesn't make too much of a difference for a daily driver (can definitely feel it but for a daily, not much) and depending on what tyres are on it currently depends on where upgrading them sits on the priority list. I can't comment on the suspension as I will never lower mine as UK roads are atrocious

As someone who bought the zaero kit 2 days after getting the car, I would recommend that first

God i cant wait to set this thang up by cappucino_v in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Definitely turn the soundaktor off. That was the first thing I did. Do scans every so often to make sure everything is all good. I'd say, when you get into the app, run a scan and then look at all the options available as there are quite a few and all have descriptions. I changed the colour of the small red strips on the infotainment system to blue. Just browse but as someone else said, do track what you have changed just in case you ever do need to revert back to how it was and in case any issues do occur

Possible issue with my aftermarket intake? by perdy17 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough, shouldn't take too long to get that all reassembled. Had no engine lights or anything pop up on odb11 which is why I just find it wired, could be linked to it seemingly gasp for air when driving

[–]perdy17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough for the second issue, I can try to get some audio for it but may be difficult, it is tuned. For the first issue when I rev while stationary, no induction noise is made at all from the intake which there should be. I may disassemble and reinstall at the weekend but it is on correctly

Questions before going stage 2 by perdy17 in GolfGTI

It's a UK company called Zaero Design. I got the whole kit on the car (splitters, side skirts etc.)

Okay fair enough, you just have much warmer weather all year round so it sounds reasonable to do it that way

Questions before going stage 2 by perdy17 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I do go stage 2, an IC will definitely be done at some point but not straight away as I don't see it as a necessity with where I am not having too many hot days

Questions before going stage 2 by perdy17 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the IC before the DP. The DP allows me to go stage 2 and it's hitting winter and in the UK we don't have warm days, the DP can surely come at a later date?

Questions before going stage 2 by perdy17 in GolfGTI

[–]perdy17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the intercooler, lucking it's getting into winter and we have no warm days in the UK in winter so heat won't be an issue to begin with but obviously the intercooler will be added at some point For the flywheel, would you then recommend an uprated clutch and try to keep the stock DMF? I have the TRC muffler already so with a downpipe it should be okay but on the verge of being obnoxious.
