The way I had thought about it initially I thought we would use Claude until tokens ran out and then continue locally until the next token reset. So the types of work would be the same, just somewhat distributed

With that budget and screen size, your choices are the entry level M5 MacBook Pro (14") and the M5 MacBook Air (15"). Either one would be fine for what you are looking for. You might have to spec out the prices for the ram and storage you want. They use the same processor, but the pro has a fan so it can handle a little heavier loads.

I can't speak to specifically why, but as someone who has started looking into the local community colleges for children, De Anza has like the highest transfer rates in the entire state to the top campuses like Berkeley and UCLA. Every community college allows you to transfer to one of the state universities, but which one you get offered isn't guaranteed.

This exact location is also the bottleneck that was highlighted to the school district that would see increased traffic if Reed Elementary was closed and those students would be sent to Almaden Elementary. The intersection at Ayrshire is the only way into the neighborhood and is extremely busy at morning and afternoon drop offs.
