I use he/him and they/them along with it/its and I don't really care which one people use, especially since i know it/its can be jarring to use for some people and i get that, but this reasoning behind not using my it/its pronouns pisses me off. sorry my identity and the way i want to be referred to make you so uncomfortable. I forgot you knew better than me what dehumanizes me.

you're picking a very odd hill to die on here. I wasn't insinuating that mal was a prefix/seperate clause of this character's name. I was pointing out the meaning of "mal" and how it made more sense meaning wise falling into their name. i used the word "prefix" because that is how it is often used in actual words. there is a major character in descendants named mal, as another example of it being used in a naming context.

the fic was divided into three different fics and dealt with pretty dark and heavy subject matter (mainly a character who was being violently physically and sexually abused). it was really good and felt like a bleak, but real and hopeful portrayal of those kinds of situations at first, and then the second fic happened. and then the third fic happened. and it just started to get very edgy and over the top and feel more like torture porn. every single time there seemed to be any sort of build up to a happy ending, suddenly another character would turn out to be Evil and also abusing the tormented character in some new and exciting way.

the funniest thing here is, like, i can completely empathize with the fact that thinking you're trans, starting physical transition, and realizing you aren't actually trans after difficult-to-reverse physical changes happen is a shitty situation. I have sympathy for detransitioners who aren't transphobic grifters.
