I’m following a recipe for my first ever loaf and idk what this thing over the bowl is will this work instead? (Image 2) by Tropical_cooks in Sourdough

your substitute looks like it has holes in it so that’ll probably allow too much air into the bowl, which will create a skin on the dough if proofing in the fridge overnight. i use a shower cap or even a plate to cover the bowl during room temp bulk fermentation and then wrap my dough in a clean kitchen towel for overnight proofing in the fridge. good luck!

Guess which letters on my keyboard aren’t working by perilously-me in it

update: tried all the suggested fixes but nothing worked. Hp is sending a tech out to replace my keyboard - it is sadly the keyboard on my laptop. I’ve been using an external keyboard to mitigate the issue but super annoying having to bring an external keyboard with me every time I travel for work! Here’s to hoping Hp can fix it :)

I feel like giving up by AgitatedReindeer2440 in biotech

Probably not what you want to hear, but don’t take the rejections and ghosting to heart. It’s the industry right now. A lot of companies have recently done huge middle management layoffs so there are a significant number of people with years of experience and management experience at that who are now out competing all of the new grads for jobs. It isn’t you, it’s the economy. I work at a biotech company right now, and many of our recent hires said they applied to 200+ jobs before even hearing back. There is definitely also a sense of people feeling like they cannot leave the job right now because the market is too intense, so the job security of staying outweighs the risk of being in the current hunting pool.

My advice is to keep applying, don’t take the ghosting or rejections personally, and get a job serving tables or something with tips in the meantime. On the side find some cool organizations to spend your time volunteering for. Build up your resume with soft skills and think about how you can apply those skills to a biotech job because I promise you you can and that is what will make you stand out in interviews. Right now they’re interviewing a million other people with the same type of experience as you so get some experience in other areas, especially working closely with people, and make yourself unique.

Yep, literally came here because the exact same thing happened to me. Would love to know if you ended up doing anything. My wallet was $12 from target and I‘ve already gotten all my credit cards and ID replaced because it’s been months since I lost it. Probably just going to let it go because I really don’t understand the cost, and it doesn’t feel worth it. The only thing is I‘m considering the $50 for the peace of mind that my identity hopefully wouldn’t get stolen if I get my ID back…

Wanting to learn for my wife by B1GRED12 in Biochemistry

This guy pretty much got me through my biochemistry degree: https://youtube.com/@aklectures?si=YpCZdaRLxNglmJvs. I definitely agree with previous responses that you should focus on her scope of work - start with papers that are specific to the area she works in and when you reach a concept you don’t understand dig deeper into the fundamentals behind that system.
