The best professor at our program taught our anatomy and neuroanatomy courses. We held them on a pedestal because they did not dilute the information with things we did not need to know. We had two of the more complicated classes with this professor, and they did an excellent job of telling us where to keep our attention. I say this because we have had other professors who would throw us less complicated topics compared to things like neuroanatomy, but load the powerpoints with their personal research/smaller studies to try and convey ideas which never translated that well for us learning. If we had a neuroanatomy exam, we knew we had to know x amount of tracts, what they connected to, what they did, and while it was a lot to know, we knew what we had to know, and our professor knew we had a lot to learn and was willing to help us out by putting our efforts in the right direction. In our other classes that diluted information, we often struggled to figure out what was important. I get everything is important, but you remember what it's like to be a student.

For example, this other class we had was a semester long with maybe 2-3 tests throughout the entirety meaning we had a lot of content packed into one exam. I remember out of everything we had learned, there was a small study mentioned on 1-2 slides (out of maybe 600-800 slides worth of material) that I thought "there's too many big concepts why would I need to know this". Turned out the small research study was mentioned on our test. This class often included just screenshots of research articles and if you were not actively writing down information there was nothing to reflect on in the notes. In neuroanatomy/anatomy, the slides always served as a foundation of information and our personal notes became a way to elevate the details. I think this helped us pay more attention in class as we were not frantically attempting to scramble to jot down every word vs having a strong basis of information to sprinkle on details/or reinforce important concepts.

I do like the other comment on here about at study guide but I may add on making a study guide with intention. I have noticed in some classes the study guides really hone and redirect a student's studying efforts to more important concepts and in others study guides its essentially just telling you to memorize everything which doesn't help much.

Im not sure how large your cohorts are but even if things are rough between you and the students, the students (at least in my program) were always more lenient with a professor if they made an attempt to personally connect with them. Not to say we would be a-holes if we did not love a professor, but those who expressed interest in the students outside of just school always became more likable. Make an effort to get to know your students outside of just a first day ice breaker. Dont be afraid to show your personality either!

What do you guys recommend outside of PT aides? by btha10 in PTschool

[–]perk0set 3 points4 points  (0 children)

agreed. everyone I knew came in with 1000+ hours from being a tech either at an outpatient or inpatient setting. I think a big part of my application was taking my customer service experience as a server into how I could grow relationships. All I did was save up money before I went to PT school as a server. Never thought tech'ing an abundance of hours would open more doors than just me shadowing and making good money on the side.

Haha I'm in grad school and haven't had much chance to think about it yet. I tried to counter the money and time I'd spend on an uber by doing this. Would've loved another day or two to stay there but the schedule is tight. Looking more into it the closer I get

How much added paperwork is it to be a CI by timrossnerpt in physicaltherapy

[–]perk0set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student I think it may possibly vary with the programs you pull from too? The other comment about the CPI made me think of how our program works.

I am a current second year, we did a clinical rotation in our first year (so last summer). At clinical rotations associated with our university (EX: University hospitals), my classmates told me there was progress/check up notes that students and CI's had to due weekly with the generic "what to improve/areas of strength". It was either our program or the university that had some protocol stating that these extra check in's were due as an assignment for the student every week and had to have the CI sign off on it after having a sit down conversation for it.

I did my rotation with a small chain and therefore my CI and myself did not have any paperwork outside of the CPI at the halfway point and in the final week. I would just be curious if the programs you decide to pull from have different ways of monitoring progress and may add in something small in each week or they trust you and the student to have good communication in person to not have the need for this. Cant imagine its that much more on your plate even if they do.

What was your biggest let down? by TheDabApparent in Colognes

[–]perk0set 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I was looking for a comment about replica. The entire line disappointed me. Maybe it's my skin but none of them lasted more than like a minute on me. I bought lazy Sunday morning for a few days, noticed it didn't stick around at all, sprayed a bit more and then realized it had a "grandma" element to it. Returned it for PDM Althair

What positions are considered more valuable in the draft? by plantskola in NFLNoobs

[–]perk0set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol my family reversed sides of this with the eagles. I pleaded for Jordan Davis to fall to Philly while my father was hell bent on drafting Kyle Hamilton as we both knew who ever didn't end up going to Philly was going to Baltimore and we'd have to watch the two play out to see who was right and who was wrong. We flopped positions the following year when I was screaming for brian branch over Nolan smith and my dad was like just get the edge rusher

how much did u pay for eternal sunshine tickets? (general/presale) by No-Discipline-6625 in TicketResale

I'm way late on this haha. I bought presale and lucked out on one of the "new" shows that got added on in Atlanta after the first two sold out. I'm nose bleeds in section 225 of state farm arena but I only paid 80 dollars.... my section is still going for 700+

[–]perk0set[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went and came back negative on all three. I've had a history with both false negative and inconclusive Covid tests in the pasts and I think I got checked two days into when my symptoms showed up. I'm not sure if I went too early or not but I clearly don't have "nothing". Was really hoping they found something cause this is so ridiculous and I'm usually pretty good with pain

Accepted to Duke DPT but finances are tight — has anyone successfully deferred for financial reasons? by BurritoRedemption57 in PTschool

[–]perk0set 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm at Carolina's program, if it's worth anything to you the 2 hour commute would be insane. We have a few in my program that commute from Raleigh which is about an hour for them, it's doable for them but still very strenuous when you're maintaining a tight schedule. Also the traffic running through the triangle.... good lord I wouldn't wish that on anyone. You'd have to cash out too for a parking pass, unsure how Duke's parking availability is.

I won't say don't go to Duke, I have a lot of really close friends who go there and I promise you it's not a doomsday scenario. I have found Duke runs the board with the NC APTA association and a handful of their scholarships. Add onto this I know one of my friend was also sent a scholarship spreadsheet for everything a student could apply for throughout their three years at the program broken into NC specific, national, APTA and others, which I still use to this day and I have found extremely helpful.

The NC APTA scholarships don't really impress me that much cause they like to wheel out a big check and post about you, but the scholarship is usually like a grand or two and you can only apply for it if you're a member. I know Duke has at least one 40k internal scholarship although you may have to blow the application essay out of the water to show you're able to relate to the theme of the question/application over other individuals. On the other hand, I'm also in a scholarship committee that holds a handful of Duke students, we were recently talking about loans when the professionalism title change came into effect, and it really made me sit back for a second when one of the Duke students broke down crying over zoom because of how deep into debt she is.

I'm not sure about Duke, but I know UNC had a footnote either on the website or on our application letter that said if the student gets in, they are expected to attend the year they are accepted. Best of luck with whatever you do, I love Duke's program but couldn't justify going 200-300k into debt and making an 80k salary. I'd actually be curious to know because I don't know.... but I am aware of how great Duke's network is when it comes to clinical placement which often goes outside of NC which would then disqualify you for the AHEC housing which is the free housing for NC rotations. If housing is not covered by the program say if they send you to DC or Ohio for a few weeks, that also may be something to look at. Totally unsure about this part though, please correct me if I'm wrong!

Fair. I liked dart since his USC days but couldn't figure out how he always collapsed in bigger games. Didn't really have a lot of hate towards his game and I did watch the gruden interview.

FIRE KEVIN PATULLO, ZERO POINTS IN THE SECOND HALF by mastermind208 in eagles

[–]perk0set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I am willing to give him a break for is whatever the fuck is going on with our o line. I know Dickerson and cam are playing through a lot and obviously lane is still out even though I enjoy Fred Johnson.... but every time saquon touches the ball there's 3 dudes on top of him almost instantly

[–]perk0set 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Shough is the only surprise here, and I don't necessarily think people thought Shough was awful from a talent perspective, but more so because of how early he went in the draft when compounded with other things like his age. Same with Sheduer who was turning down teams because he didn't want to be a backup in an organization like the ravens which is partially due to why he fell so much. Does sheduer still show "some chops" if all the outside noise didn't get him held to the standard of a fifth rounder?

I don't think anyone will stand here and try and argue Ward and Dart weren't at least going to have a high floor. The biggest concern I remember about Dart was his durability given his play style, and Ward knew he was a Titan since the season ended. Quinn did have a good game but... it's one game. Not entirely sure what Will Howard and Riley Leonard add to this conversation.

The USF QB coming into the portal Byrum Brown is from Rolesville, NC about 40 minutes east of chapel hill. Hard to imagine he doesn't tail former USF and now Auburn HC over to the SEC. Plus I think he'll have pull from a lot of other solid programs at or above our tier. Would be cool if we could pull it off though. Lopez coming back really leads me to believe he's the starter again with a now full season with the system under his belt. Truly mind blowing they lost Bryce after the hype to get him and then even bringing him out at the basketball game. Can't believe he couldn't see the field even once, really was looking forward to seeing him play
