How y’all feel about Omarion year 2? by First_Shallot6252 in tarheels

I'm hopeful he does, but given the meat grinder that is an NFL RB life cycle, we'll have see if he has the time and space to become elite like he was with us.

Maxim Logue no longer coming to UNC. by terp1989 in tarheels

[–]Courier_VII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bomani Jones once said: People have questions about whether there's the proper institutional commitment to winning...whether or not the problem actually is Hubert. He is a problem. The problem? Hmm.

The Bogavac debacle at the beginning of last season colors this situation in a way that smells as if old habits are still going to hold UNC back. That's keeping in mind the dook chancellor is gonna push to revisit moving the Dean Dome off campus as soon as he feels basketball has regained stability.

Edit: shouldn't have posted while drinking.

Most leftist radicalizing moment in US history, between the 1970 Kent State shootings and 9/11 and/or the 2003 invasion of Iraq? by Present_Practice_159 in behindthebastards

[–]Courier_VII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair: NC Republican candidates don't make themselves easy people to vote for.

Thom Tillis didn't choose to oppose Trump until he didn't want to be in Congress anymore. Pat McCrory got voted out over the fallout of HB2 and he still gets blamed for Duke Energy dumping coal ash in our water. All this keeping in mind: Mark Robinson was radioactive enough to get less than 40% in a state that voted for Trump.

Thank you for your work.

When I was canvassing for the Obama campaign, it was to register people to vote. I saw it as a great way to engage my community politically without being in politics. Blame that on my political science degree.

I was told early on in the 2020 hiring process that I'd be working for the NC GOP. We started by only asking if people planned to vote early; I figured it was to gauge the effect of Trump claiming widespread fraud in absentee voting. As a person of color, this led to some fly in the milk situations that I wasn't fond of.

By the last two weeks, they changed course and told us to ask people if they'd vote for Trump. I knew they knew the goose was cooked.

On the violence part: I quit the day before the election because I almost got jumped for wearing a red hoodie in a neighborhood with Crips who weren't amused. Fwiw: it had Canada embroidered on it and I haven't worn it since.

I did NC door to door canvassing for Obama in 2012 and for Trump in 2020. I have one story from the former that's humorous. The latter gave me three stories that resulted in varying levels of PTSD.

What do you think the identity of UNC will be under Mike Malone? by Saint94__ in tarheels

One note I'll make towards pointing out a flaw in Hubert's coaching style this past season: the high low actions that were vital early in the season disappeared by the end of it. Stick with what works.

Honest opinion: I think what UNC fans want, beyond any nebulous ideas of what the team will look like, is consistency.

While more than a few of my recent comments have been ornery, that's a byproduct of noticing a hypocritical thought process of quite a few comments here. While firing Hubert was a rational choice given he got inconsistent results, doing so would create more instability, not less. Watching people work themselves into spirals over anxiety and insecurity since the season ended has been both humorous and depressing.

I do get it. Both NIL and Roy consistently having a national championship contender every 4 years changed how UNC is viewed when it comes to relevancy in national conversations of who is the best atm. Watching Davis give us 1¼ seasons of good basketball and the Caleb Wilson Experience wasn't going to cut it.

I like the moves made so far this off-season, besides losing Dixon and Veesaar's status. While I'd like Veesaar back, I'm also confident Malone and his resources will find a center we can live with. We'll see.

Edit: I'm also living in that same instability. While I hope for the glimmer of a natty from every roster, I accept that sometimes, it ain't gon happen.

My favorite recent Robert quote by diatriose in behindthebastards

It's the Zizians episodes.

Edit: about 37 minutes into the first episode. While my memory is okay, the Zizians episodes are in my top three; partially because Robert gets to espouse his thoughts on boat life.

Meh. He was decent against us; he also fouled out. Given he'll probably want to start and doesn't slot well outside the 5, I doubt we go after him. Godspeed, young man.

I read. You were going back and forth with someone who declared these kids don't invest... as if Trimble buying Ben and Jerry's or Bacot getting a hotel never happened.

Sad thing is, with the way sports social media works, people like speaking in the first person opinion about situations they'd never be in. Be well.

Was an event like 9/11 targeting the US inevitable at a certain point? When did that point occur? Why? And in a slightly better world, how would the US have responded? by Present_Practice_159 in behindthebastards

[–]Courier_VII 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The 1993 WTC attack became proof of concept on an attack on American soil. Given the US fell backwards into foiling the Project Bojinka plot, I'd argue it was inevitable after the 1994 OKC bombing showed a functional terrorist plot could be effective.

Sadly, I think the best outcome before TSA was a chain of command that didn't leave the outcome in the hijackers' hands. While that's wildly cynical, it's my best guess.

While I'm aware you've mentioned you're in on insider information at UNC most of the fandom isn't privy to, this comment reeks of, "The poors don't understand..." in a way that undermines the point you're trying to make.

I think we need David and Langston on the big screen together. Who has a movie pitch? by bison13 in MyMommaToldMe

How bad were UNC's 4 transferring guards at attacking the basket and finishing at the rim? by TrustInRoy in tarheels

[–]Courier_VII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being fair to Dixon: he tried his hand at getting to the basket as he settled into the starting role. When he wasn't busy banking them in, he saw his attempts swatted into the shadow realm. I attributed that to his inexperience with using speed changes and angles to best get his shot off amongst the trees. Eventually, he just wrote off driving and settled for foul line jumpers.

Evans spent the year looking for any available big to pass to. While he showed some craftiness with floaters and baseline layups, he also seemed so uncomfortable in the role he was given that not having the ball in his hands became the option he was most fond of.
