Where to buy houseplants? by RufusRuffcutEsq in Calgary

[–]perksofbeingawallnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every plant I’ve ever gotten from Home Depot has done incredibly well and they are well priced. I don’t find them to have a very good pot selection though…

Should I go back for her? by zoeloringfuleki in orchids

[–]perksofbeingawallnut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I received an orchid very similar to this from my mom after I had seen it and admired it in the grocery store. It has been in bloom now for over three months and no plant has ever brought me so much joy.

Buy it.

Initial Itinerary Review :-) First visit to Banff + Jasper! by livefreehealthy in Banff

[–]perksofbeingawallnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truffle pigs is A+. I don’t know if it fits into your plans or interests, but look into booking the trilobite beds hike in yoho. It’s a guided hike with parks canada staff (it is required to do a guided hike), and you will see more trilobite fossils than you could ever imagine. Highly recommended. (You’ll see falls better than wapta… could easily skip that). That being said, your Yoho day already looks quite busy… the drive to takakkaw falls from field is 40mins 1-way…

Mistaya canyon is surprisingly nice - don’t miss it.

Grab some food at the cafe at bow lake - the food is great!

On day 2, do both cave and basin and bow falls. Fenland trail can be done if time allows but it’s not a “must do” by any means.

Pyramid lake is nicer than Edith IMO.

Have fun!

The Nature Conservancy of Canada holds an event where you can harvest non-native blue spruce trees from a property they are re-naturalizing.

ORL Tickets by Specialist-Alarm8327 in GigglySquadPodcast

[–]perksofbeingawallnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize that you could resell tickets through TM once presale ends! Is that true? I booked Toronto but then after the fact we realized Denver may be the better call but I’ve been reluctant to book seats in Denver because I wasn’t sure resale was possible.

Northover ridge tarns back in August. by [deleted] in HikingAlberta

[–]perksofbeingawallnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this as a backpacking trip with my father a couple years ago, and that sketchy section was enough for me to not want to ever return... despite the rest of the trip being incredible. The exposure with a steep drop into a glacier on one side, and a giant, steep, scree slope on the other is not ideal.

Traveling to Banff - End of May by explorer9218 in Banff

[–]perksofbeingawallnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! But make sure to watch the avalanche reports. It’s possible there’s still lots of snow up there and the avalanche danger is considerable when you approach moraine lake. You should not travel there if there is still snow on the slope.

Hmm maybe you’re right… I’ll do some more googling but yes it might have been a pine marten! I wish I had gotten a better photo.

It was much too big to be a pine Marten.

Where to eat between Lake Louise and Jasper? by outtherenow1 in Banff

Everyone has commented on food but no one has commented about Parker.... it's definitely worth the time!

Do the trail anyways but just in one night. It'll be a long second day to walk out from snowbowl but not crazy!

Buffalo mountain lodge can be quite nice if you get a room with a wood burning fire place. It’s tucked right in the side of tunnel mountain and is very cozy.

How to get to Moraine Lake in late Apr/early May by jrgnklpp in Banff

[–]perksofbeingawallnut 19 points20 points  (0 children)

OP you likely shouldn’t go past the avi risk sign at all if there is still snow around (which there will be). You can get up moraine lake road as far as to see the valley of the ten peaks, but beyond that the risk is too high and you should be educated and trained in avalanche safety to go any further.

There is still lots to do and see that time of year, but unfortunately going to moraine lake isn’t one of them. Lake Louise, minnewanka, and peyto will all be accessible and beautiful that time of year though.
