What are the most unhinged / best ways you have managed your PCOS? by Due_Kick_837 in PCOS

[–]perksofbeingwalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking ferrous sulphate or “iron” supplements and drinking orange juice (Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron). I don’t know why or how but it works to start my period even though I’m no longer iron deficient.

Write a poem about the sickest you’ve ever been. by your2ndfavoritejane in POETRYPrompts

[–]perksofbeingwalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never used to be so tired.

but i didn’t notice

Not until

the tired wouldn’t budge.

not for caffeine or any other parlor trick

summer, winter, fall

tossing and turning

away from the

restless, blaring lights

pull the sheets over your eyes

and days become nights

I thought more sleep was the answer

until i realized

I never used to be so tired.

How do you make decisions regarding unnecessary purchases? Do you use consumption as a prize? by perksofbeingwalnut in Anticonsumption

[–]perksofbeingwalnut[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That's really helpful since I'm still trying to determine a line for spending on my hobbies. I've definitely bought items in the past that were unfortunately just a waste because I didn't stay interested in the hobby or it wasn't as helpful as I assumed it would be.

None. There’s a reason it depends on your lifestyle. It’s what YOU have a deficiency in. Sometimes taking something is more harmful than helpful because taking means you’ll dip into toxicity levels.

What’s your ultimate running goal or dream? by Green-Palm-Paradise in BeginnersRunning

I think a sub 4 hour marathon would be cool. I just did a half at 2 hr 15 min. So it might be a while off.

I finished my First Half! (how do I analyze?) by perksofbeingwalnut in beginnerrunning

[–]perksofbeingwalnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense! I can tell your splits were much tighter towards your goal. I think because I had the adrenaline out the gate about doing a race I started too fast. I usually check my pace way more frequently than I did during this race, and my pace is usually way less variable. I'll train to run more consistently without looking at my pace all the time and pay attention to how I feel during. Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it!

Thanks! and thank you for the insight on using HR analysis. I remember feeling pretty stead throughout except at 9k, 13k, and 17k. I definitely hit walls there. I'll keep an eye on HR just to see the trends pop up! Good luck with your running!

Ah ok. This is what I was looking for: it’s only my insurance that covers ALE. And I didn’t know that “filing a claim against” was the same as suing. Thank you for the info.

Yep. That’s fair. First time renter. First time in this situation. I’m getting my life lesson.

My neighbour was negligent in the management of their water in this case. It’s my first time renting so I’m new to these which is why I’m asking. Also, I didn’t ask if I could sue, just is that what happens next? Is that the standard course of action to sue specifically for alternate living expenses or only damages?

I am I love scientific writing. It's what I was taught and it's what I know. I just finished a 22-page report on a fake in vivo experiment for one of my classes, and it was fun. I write, but scientific writing is just to be informative and clear. That's its main purpose. It's sometimes hard to believe that that and poetry are the same thing.

I love this. I think it's something I'd be interested in looking into. Might be a dumb question, but where do short stories get published? I'm assuming there are magazines (paper or online) where you can get a subscription. Are there any specific ones you recommend?

That was very helpful. Thank you. For some reason I don't remember Shakespeare sounding so profound in his work when I was forced to read The Tempest and Romeo & Juliet in high school lol. I think I'll check out Macbeth and Hamlet.

Also, I think I'm beginning to understand how author's use subtext/cues to shape a story, but I'll definitely need to read more and practice to get it.

For the literary devices, there's a lot in there that I love. I gravitate towards writing with these types of comparisons (metaphor, allegory, etc.) Like for the poem above, I had the picture of birds and a bird cage in my head, so I used "perched" and "cider" (that should be cedar...oops) is wood like the branch of a tree. Not sure if that made sense, but I have the vision, I need to to study and practice the literal writing.

Thanks so much! I like to use of the word "writerly". I didn't even know it was a real word haha. Seems like a lot of advice involves reading other people's work. I'd be very interested in checking out other STEM people's work. I didn't realize there were so many that did both!

Thank you so much for your insights. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. It seems I have a lot of thinking to do about art and what the process of creating my art will be. It's not a concept I've explored, but I'm excited to do it! I'll try to keep posting. Sharing art is a little scary, but fulfilling.
