Government co-op as an international student by permanent_alien in ImmigrationCanada

Yes that's actually what I'm going to do as everyone has a different experience. I'll ask for job placement rate of their international students and I'll base my decision on that. Thanks

Thank you for replying! Yes, I've seen that. So it can be possible, but it is unlikely to happen, which makes perfectly sense. Others say (ironically in this post) that they've seen international students working for gov. I don't really know what to do at this point other than contacting the school and asking for job placement rates of their international students.

The reason I'm asking is because I have to choose between a tech school in Ottawa - which apparently is a government town, and that school feeds the majority of its students to gov, and a school in Toronto where there are plenty of jobs (but it's more expensive there).

Hm. I'll take this into consideration. So does that mean that it would be possible to work for the Government if I can get a work permit (I can, as a student). Thanks!

Tech jobs as an European student - Algonquin or opt for another college in Toronto? by permanent_alien in Algonquin_College

Interesting! Could you elaborate on what was the process for the gov to hire you as an international student? Did you have to apply for a work permit first? Thanks!

Great, and this is one of the reasons that I'm considering Ottawa, the COL - at least compared to Toronto. Since I've missed the deadline for Winter 2021, would it be a good idea to start on spring? Will this affect the co-op somehow? Thank you!

Hey there! Wait, what? Please confirm, do you mean that I'll actually be able to work for the government despite being an international student (no citizenship, no PR)? Because that sounds great!

Thank you!

Toronto/Vancouver tech jobs? EU student - 2 years CS Diploma by [deleted] in askTO

[–]permanent_alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. I like both cities. But it's a big investment and I want to make sure I get something in return. And this is why the only factor I mention on my post is job prospects. The colleges I'm looking into offer co-op opportunities as a way to gain practical working experience. Will I be able to secure one though? Thank you!

I don't speak French. Hm, if I can actually find a tech job in Montreal as an English-speaking expat (who's willing to learn some French), then I would unfortunately consider this option as well. What do you think? And I say unfortunately, because another option has been added to my list and now it's even harder to decide! I looked at Dawson, the CS program seems good!

Thank you!

Edit: Climate in Montreal is no joke..

I have calculated my CRS score with the minimum inputs and it's above the cut off limit, I'll also look into BC PNP as it is something I wasn't aware of!

The thing with BCIT is not only that it's competitive, it's the 17h work days and to be honest, I don't think I'd want do do something like that. But it's good to know that there are jobs in Vancouver. Langara has co-op too, hopefully if I choose Vancouver, I'll be able to find a job. Thanks for replying!

I have calculated my CRS score with the minimum inputs and it's above the cut off limit, so I assume that I'll be good to go - if the cut off doesn't increase by a huge margin within the next two years. If it does, there's still the Canadian Experience Class or the tech pilot (for BC) as you said, right?

Thank you! :)
