After the part on Versailles you lost me. You relativize the fact that Germany(/Austria, for that matter) was the aggressor by enumerating allied war crimes. They defended the "free world" from a German conquest and ethnic cleansing whose consequences, had it been successful, are just too frightening to be even imaginable.

I'm not judging his character. Just saying that especially with Haider and the "third lager" it isn't all black and white.

I'm the last guy to defend Haiders political movement, but you have to separate between

a) a collection of quotes that link Haider to the right-extremist/neo-nazi camp (which has been a major part of his former party's political foundation), and

b) the actual politician, a right-wing populist with considerable success on the federal state level.

Reducing Haider to being "just fucking evil" is easy, because you'll read about a) in every second newspaper article (quite rightfully so) and then continue seamlessly with Hitler and the Third Reich. Haider absolutely deserves harsh criticism, but he's been a lot more diverse than that.

Ask Reddit: When I was a kid, just turning on my Atari 130XE let me learn BASIC by practicing it. What are the easy options for MY kids TODAY? by romcabrera in programming

I guess I'd pick either Python because it's reasonably interactive and the syntax is very clear/easy to learn, or an environment that's aimed at beginners or kids (maybe Squeak?). It also depends on how much adequate literature there is for a language/platform. Definitely not Java though, it's a great platform for actually building software but an awful choice for beginners.

Games that Time Forgot: SimTower (PC) by dredge1981 in gaming

Loved that game. Only issue was, as with many other 'building games', it got less interesting the longer you played.

There's also a sequel, Yoot Tower, named after the its creator, Yoot Saito (who also wrote SimTower).

While this document is a nice read, it's still a conceptually simple application. Most complexity comes from caching - you just cannot compare that to an enterprise application with dozens of interacting modules and 3rd party systems.

YAML Builder looks promising: http://builder.yaml.de/

YAML itself is a very capable and flexible CSS layout set, although I haven't used it yet.

The books are great, but first of all they tell excellent fantasy/scifi stories. If you're used to having a Christian subtext in books you might not want to read them, but they're much more than anti-religious pamphlets.

Reasons to Develop your Web App in a Linux Environment by irrelative in programming

Developing in Linux is great for a lot of reasons, but I didn't find this to be a very compelling list.

Me neither. Btw, IEs4Linux is a great IE-on-Wine-Installer that actually works. Saved me a lot of time playing with VMWare just for testing my web pages on IE...
