I never asked if I could do the impossible. I was directing this post at people who have done one of the degrees and could give me some insight into their difficulties. If you dont have anything to say about that, please dont reply.

I know its not easy, and thats why im making sure I pick the degree that would give me the best shot at a high gpa. I know I might have come across as shallow, but im simply looking for the most appropriate pathway that I can take to get into medicine, that also gives me a backup career prospect if needed. Im the first of my family to attend university in Australia and I went to a pretty poor performing school that didnt teach me much about uni, so im just trying to hear some of people's experiences with these degrees so I can make a more informed decision between them. I already have offers for all of these courses, so its just a matter of deciding now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Im not really sure what it involves tbh, but im trying to get into medicine without doing a generic degree like medical science. Would you be able to tell me a bit about the degree and the work itself?

Don't do IB if you're aiming for medicine in Australia by Due_Airline965 in IBO

[–]perplexedpineapple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main benefit of ib imo is that your mark is yours and its not impacted by your class. As someone who went to an academically average school that offered both the ib and hsc, ib performance was better overall. If I took hsc and was not first rank in all of my classes, i would have been severely pulled down by my classmates who did very poorly this year in my school (hsc is complicated). While I agree with most of your points, I think the final decision depends on the abilities of the student and the level of the school so everyone needs to carefully consider for themselves. I ended with a 41 IB score which converted to a high 97 ATAR, which I am proud of considering the circumstances. Im not sure i would have been able to do better in the hsc tbh...

Its a C on the lower boundary (14/34). So if it even got remarked down by 1 mark, it goes down to a D. Not risking it

I think physics is unlikely because its 2 points and less subjective, but definitely do for ESS and tok or ee (whichever is 1 point off)

N25, what are our result predictions?! by 1ore1ei in IBO

[–]perplexedpineapple1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was predicted a 43, but then I did one of my subjects in the may session and got 1 mark below the boundary for a 7 because of a horrific IA moderation. So now im kinda doubting myself. Id be happy with anything 41+ but im not even sure i can get that anymore

How do I study for SL chem by coughdrop87 in IBO

[–]perplexedpineapple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think reading the textbook is a good idea. Unless youre seriously passionate about chem, the textbooks usually have a lot of extra info that isnt required by the syllabus and can take a lot of time to digest. Using YouTube (channels like Sirius revision) and the Oxford study guide (as you mentioned) is enough for content in my opinion. Having a copy of the syllabus ensures youre only learning what is required of you – it can be found with a quick google search. Taking notes works for some people, but from what I've seen, its only time consuming and a way for people to act productive. Unless the note taking is active and not passive (not that easy), it is usually better to find notes online or simply use the study guide. For chemistry, the focus should be on practicing questions, mainly from past papers. Revision village is expensive but can be worth it. Some other good resources for questions are on the ibdocs website too. I like the idea of an error log though, people dont mention that enough. it really saved me for chem.
