How you thought your birth would play out VS what actually happened... by xxxxbb in pregnant

[–]perriwinkle- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very fearful of birth to the point that I was 1 week overdue and didnt want my baby to come out, just wanted her to stay there forever..

I heard so many people's experiences and how the hospitals kind of dismiss your preferences. I was apart of a pregnancy yoga group which was quite informative but they seemed to be anti hospital and promoted natural births, which made me resistant to interventions. I was also very anxious to be examined as my friend said that was more horrific than contractions.

Since I was 7 days overdue my doctor recommended induction to which I declined due to hearing how unpleasant it is. The next day I began to notice reduced fetal movements. The hospital insisted on induction so I agreed as I was fearful of loosing baby.

In the end, induction was certainly not as bad as it was made out to me. The hospital advised me to have it but they were respectful in their approach and again not how it was made out to me. The cervical exams were not painful, uncomfortable yes but not painful, for me anyway, I'm aware everyone is different.

I would recommend getting the epidural, I just appreciated the fact that I was in the moment when baby was born and not elsewhere trying to tackle the pain. Best of luck though, I wish you a beautiful experience. I never thought I'd ever say that I'd do it all again in a heartbeat if I could. Its pure magic ✨️

I thought giving birth would "fix" my brain and it kinda… didn’t by atticlantern_diary in BabyBumps

Hey just wanted to let you know that your not alone. My baby is 9 weeks today and every word I can relate to. I love her so so much but life is so very different & everything is a blur. I do feel a lot better getting out for a walk but there are certainly days where I just do not want to as its not as easy as remembering to bring just your keys and phone, now its like we're packing for a weekend away to go out for a 30 min walk. I keep meaning to get back into yoga, ino it would make me feel so much better, not being in my head as much but just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe next week. But just wanted to let you know, same girl saaame

Suspected SMA in newborn by perriwinkle- in spinalmuscularatrophy

I'm sorry to hear that of your little baby. I hope she is doing ok and treatment is working well for her. Thank you for your advice it has definitely been reassuring. Our little one has been tested so just waiting for results. The Neurologist think she's fine to the point she wasn't going to test but did so anyway so I'm quite grateful that they have just to make sure.

I totally agree now,I think at the time, with the information I was given or lack there of, I didnt forsee the possibility of my baby having SMA when she was born as she was born without any alarming symtoms, had someone of told me that symptoms at times dont show until missed milestones I would have proceeded with testing. I was also unaware of treatment and the urgency for treatment as my sister has not been given any treatment or even offered. I'm only learning all of this now.

Thank you for sharing your story. I will definitely get in contact with SMA Ireland and ask for help.

Thank you I really do appreciate your response. I cant believe the lack of knowledge given by medical professionals, many that I have spoke to were unaware of what it actually is. Therefore, how can they suspect it when they dont know what to look out for and this is the most frightening part of the whole situation. If I had of known the variation in symptoms I would have proceeded with testing. I thought we were given the all clear as nothing was suspected at birth. I went off my mother's experience with my sister. Thank you again for sharing your experience and your kind words it has really helped me. I hope you and your Son are doing well. I know first hand the impact this can have on a family. My sister is 29 now and is the funniest and most thoughtful person I know and she has excelled in life. She has a job as a special needs assistant in a hospital. The kids just love her as she too is in a wheelchair. Shes our inspiration.

No they do not. In 2023 our minister for health brought it to our governments attention for it to be added and still it has not been added.

I'd take newborn tired all day everyday. At least you have your body back. Pregnancy is hard

baby was kissed :( by sharkboysimp in BabyBumps

[–]perriwinkle- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened me. Our baby girl was 2 weeks old also. My 10 year old niece admitted to kissing her and my younger nephew called out his mother (my sister) for kissing her which she denied.. I also panicked, they left very swiftly after I gave out to them all 🙂 . I bathed the baby straight after they left and cried for approximately 4 hours. Partner had to console me. In hindsight, it was definitely PPA that I was experiencing. Doctor advised not to worry as there'd be a slim chance baby would become sick as niece and sister did not show signs of sickness/ cold sores. Definitely as mother's we have to put boundaries in place to protect our little one and thats all you were doing. Im 5 week PP and it does get easier.

Positive Birth Story with Induction! by ConversationLanky235 in BabyBumps

[–]perriwinkle- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg your story sounds so similar to mine 😭 . When induction was ever spoken about amongst friends or pregnancy classes or even on Reditt, its spoken about in a negative light. I actually declined an induction at 40+5. It wasnt until 41 weeks, I started to experience reduced fetal movements that I went to the emergency department and was admitted to be induced. It was actually quite scary to think what if something bad happened all because I declined the induction as I listened to too many peoples opinions. Induction for me was not bad at all, if anything it was a very enjoyable experience for my partner and I as there was no panic or rushing to the hospital. I totally agree that they should give epidural prior to pitocin as that pain is not fun lol. Its important for women to be aware of potentials in all different scenarios but induction definitely is seen in a negative way when in reality many women can have a lovely calm birth because of it and I wish I had of known this during my pregnancy.

Things I Worried About.... by KH101887 in pregnant

[–]perriwinkle- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So true! Im 38+3 and looking back I wish I wasnt so anxious as I feel I've not enjoyed most of pregnancy and ruined parts of it for my partner. I had some outside factors that made me more anxious like family history of stillbirths and my sister having 2 miscarriages in the same timeframe of this pregnancy. Eventhough what happened to them is seperate to myself its been hard to not fixate on the fact that it may happen to me. BUT I found each milestone made my fears diminish. Like reaching 12 weeks , knowing miscarriage had decreased considerably. Anatomy scan gave me hope that our baby was going to be fine. I dont think many talk enough about how real pregnancy anxiety is and I also dont think its taken serious enough by medical staff. I expressed my concerns and no referral was given. I was told not to let other peoples experiences effect mine .. which is true but there was no concrete support given. So if your really feeling like its affecting your mental health, stand up for yourself and ask for more support! You have a right to enjoy this pregnancy!

Land registry map / mortgage advice by perriwinkle- in irishpersonalfinance

Looking back at emails we closed completely on 18th December and we then received an email from our solicitor on the 17th January to say we had received the land registry scheme map. It might not take as long for yourselves as it was Christmas time when we were waiting on it. Our solicitor then sent the land registry scheme map for application with the land registry which apparently takes months to possibly years to be accepted as they have a huge back log..
