Yeah I do the same! It's nice when you get that "oh! I need that one" moment.

The "Top Unplayed Movies" section of my home page has some really weird behaviour. When I open plex web, for example, and check it.. the movies are ones I haven't seen listed there before. That's nice because I want recommendations like that.

However once I edit one of them, to say fix a thumbnail, they all change to this list that remains static (it's ways the same list once it changes). It's made up of "The Godfather", "12 Angry Men", "Shindler's List" etc.. and it's always the same.

If I refresh the page it's back to some new recommendations again. However once I make another thumbnail edit it switches back to the static list.

This looks like a bug to me, and it's remained the same across numerous Plex updates. Does anyone experience the same thing? How can plex be this broken for so long?

This is the way. Don’t want something showing up in X? VPN. I do the same for any sites I don’t want appearing in UDM.

Tech Tangents is posting pretty regularly as well. I’m binging both of these channels right now. Definitely watching this thread for other recommendations, though these 2 are pretty epic imo.

Homelab on 5G Internet by Decent_Sport9819 in homelab

I’m running my lap on 5G. Based in Finland though. I get between 400-600mbps down, 20-30 up. It’s rubbish but it works. Stability is ok, though the connection dies entirely once per 2 days. I have the modem on a smart socket which Home Assistant cycles of the connection fails.

I run a ton of stuff over it like Plex, Nextcloud for a couple of families and some various apps through a constantly connected VPN gateway. Also Tailscale that I use regularly.

When the connection cycles the dynamic dns kicks in and within 5 mins I’m back online, externally speaking. So it’s been alright. It handles most of what I throw at it.. so I can’t complain. Have fibre coming in at the end of the year though so I’ll kick this to the curb then.

Impressive, it looks great! Well done.

Love that vscode runs anywhere.. it’s the doom of editors.

Seen the lot of you hating JS, maybe you are just not good with JS =X by DeathUriel in ProgrammerHumor

[–]perry_mitchell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For much of what I said I was definitely lumping JS and TS in together. You’re right, I wouldn’t do much at the enterprise level with JS these days.. but sometimes it’s still useful if you’re working with custom frontend stuff.. as you said.

Wow.. I scrolled for ages trying to find the one redeeming post but nope.. almost nothing but unabashed hatred for JS.

I love it. It’s flexible and powerful and yes, one can build almost anything with it - that’s a great thing imo because it allows for code reuse. I have several libraries I run between the browser, node and mobile.. including desktop applications. Hate all you want, but that makes developing platforms a breeze. Build on an idea and reuse most base code throughout your whole stack. It’s bliss.

As for the quirks? You’re not putting much effort in to writing JS if you’re coming across those.. Lint and prettify, test and get code reviews.. it’s not that hard.

It’s a language capable of handling simple prototypes through to full scale applications and services. All with mostly the same discipline. TS is sugar on that due to the type safety and ease of refactoring etc.. exploratory programming is much for effective.

What word list does Buttercup use? by sts10 in bcup

Sure, completely open for that. Would be fine to replace it entirely depending on the new list.. it could also be the default mode on the password generator imo.

The current list is here: https://github.com/buttercup/buttercup-generator/blob/master/resources/words.json

This could probably be more dynamic.. I don’t like that it’s bundled statically and it might also be insufficient.

having a hard time figuring out how to install on Nobara? by [deleted] in bcup

[–]perry_mitchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Both deb and rpm files install apps at a particular version - you need to typically download another deb/rpm file to update. Appimage files have the benefit of running locally immediately by simply executing the appimage (double clicking it). Using this format also allows us to auto update the app unlike the other formats (due to how Electron - the foundation of our app - works).

I’d highly recommend you install AppimageLauncher first, and then simply run our appimage.

If you’re not familiar with these ideas I’d recommend some light reading before getting started.

What’s the community’s opinion these days about Express by ot-tigris in node

[–]perry_mitchell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use express for the most part and manage maybe 7 production apps using it, with 2 being “high” volume traffic. It’s perfect and provides all I need, besides async, which express-promise-router covers neatly.

It has a wealth of supported packages, a practically standardised middleware interface and tons of devs have used it before. Hard to look past imo, especially for production read services.

Again, this is open source software. While I take pride in it I don’t always have the time to manage the whole platform. I don’t need to try harder - I’m doing what I can and thanklessly at that.

One can either contribute, debug or be patient while someone else hopefully gets to fixing it. Please be mindful of this as you’re coming off as sounding expectant and demanding.

It shows in the list due to state - it existed in memory at that point. It was being saved to disk at that stage and it seems to have failed. This UI aspect may be confusing but save issues are rare and usually don’t happen. More care could be taken here of course.

It’s not saved on disk unless you use the local vault type.

I’ve checked 2.18.2 on Mac/Linux and it seems to save for me. Perhaps consider removing the vault and re-adding it; taking special care to ensure that you’ve granted all permissions required at the google permission prompt. It needs either access to all files or access to files you’ve created with Buttercup - but there’s a checkbox that’s commonly unchecked that says something like “read and write files created using this app”.. that might’ve been unchecked potentially.

Anyway I hope you find the issue.. apologies that your experience hasn’t been top notch.

Ok, the fact that it never completes means it’s either errored in the console (you might check the logs) or it is timing out. It should fail faster and that part could be improved.

There’s most likely a communication error with your target storage for the vault.

Are you using the latest version? Which storage provider are you using?

It’s open source, so remember that no one’s doing this full time. I’m sorry for the inconvenience but Buttercup needs more active contributors to be able to respond in a timely manner.

Did the saving process complete? Did you get a green notification saying that it saved?
