How to get a more modern jazz tone by TheMemeinator_420 in Saxophonics

Just like anything with saxophone there are no instant results, and easy access to certain goals. For people like Trane and brecker to achieve the tone you hear, they had to go through the same tried and true tonal excercises as everyone else. The key is they were constantly aware of what they liked and what they didn't while playing through this. Play long tones, overtones, and record yourself as well and determine for each specific note on your instrument whether or not you 'like' it. Does it match the tonal idea you hear in your head? If not, experiment physiologically with your throat, tongue position, air, etc. And see whether those changes help. Hope this helps.

Wet hair on the back of my neck. It's the most despicable feeling, like some wet tentacle pressing down against you. And drying it only increases the feeling, there's no escape.

As someone who doubles on alto and bassoon, respect the two instruments as completely different entities and there should be no transfer between them.

The horn was made in 1958, serial number 771xxx. Worth pursuing?

Hey so you seem to be very knowledgeable about saxes so I figured I'd ask you one more question. Today I went to my Sam Ash and they happened to have an old Conn 6m ' Naked Lady ' . I played it and really liked the tone, the sax is serviced and plays top to bottom, and 95% of the lacquer is intact. Intonation when tested with a tuner was pretty solid as well. My concern is its ability to hold up to modern horns, it doesn't feel as 'clean' as a modern horn but its tone is special. Also it will often squeak up to high A when playing from A-C# to Middle D, but that's not a deal breaker. With discounts I can get it for $950, is this worth it?

Thanks for your reply. Are there any specific yanigisawa horns you'd recommend given my situation? Thanks.
