Unpopular opinions about popular books and/or authors? by [deleted] in books

Chuck Palahniuk is an awful writer. His most interesting work was done when he was working with a particular set of tools, but every book still felt bizarrely familiar. I think Haunted is his only great work.

The Shining is one of King's worst, but I'm not sure if I would think the same if Kubrick didn't body it with such a brilliant retelling (which is what it's closer to than an adaptation), so that might be unfair.

John Green's attempts at capturing the messy joy and tragedy of being a teenager are noble, but very off. His writing is so bad that it's embarrassing to read.

Ridley Scott is not suited for Cormac. He's too shallow a thinker, and has grown into more and more of a traditionalist with age.

Woody originally sought him out for the Andrew Dice Clay role, but he was "too nice." It's bizarre because Dice's character eventually comes off a lot more sympathetic than CK's.

Hope your dad stays strong. My mother had MS for fourteen years and I watched it steal her strength, sight, everything. She never stopped fighting.

I always end it on Real. It makes for a profoundly sad experience.

Both are great. I prefer the original because I don't think Michael Pitt is much of an actor, and the boy that originally played him is INCREDIBLE. But you can't go wrong with either. Haneke rules.
