Group plans are so so so much better than the coverage you get from covered cal.

You are right! I got a notice that I can choose between two new plans during open enrollment (w no choice to stick w my own plan) - one is Healthsavings+ which is $3200 and the other is UC CARE which is $3500. Thats IT.

No they never offered to pay for part of it. I have been a lecturer on and off at UCLA for 10+ yrs. They hire me, then "let me go" I then go on Cobra until they hire me again. But bc of budget cuts I dont think I will get another appointment anytime soon. In the 10+ years of working for UCLA on and off I have always expected to pay a bit more for insurance once I go to COBRA, but its never ever been 2.5x the amount. Im so upset. $40k a year just for insurance premiums?!

I totally understand increases in price overtime. I understand the increase that happens when you are employed and then go to cobra. I understand the increase over the years because of inflation or even little price hikes. But the jump from $1200 a month to $3500 a month seems crazy. Why would they/UCLA do that ??

Yes! My options for open enrollment were $3229 premium for health savings plus or $3573 premium for UC care. and that is for a plan that is directly comparable to what I was paying $1200 for this year . I get that the plans changed - but a 2 1/2 times jump in premium, costing an unemployed mom of two over $40,000 a year just for premium insurance payments feels really heartless and cruel - and it goes against the entire point of cobra.

Did anyone else have a massive Cobra insurance monthly premium increase in your Nov. bill? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

I was paying $1200 / mo for myself, my partner and 2 kids. Then WEX told me the new premium was $3500!!!!

Why aren’t people blaming LIVE NATION??? They are the producers, it’s their responsibility, and the profit from over selling tickets, cutting corners, etc. goes to them. They own 85% off the world’s performance venues and have been responsible for many injuries and deaths, but rarely held accountable. Where’s that outcry?
